Background/objectives: The potential and limitations of chatbots in medical education and clinical decision support, particularly in specialized fields like psychiatry, remain unknown. By using the Rasch model, our study aimed to evaluate the performance of various state-of-the-art chatbots on psychiatry licensing exam questions to explore their strengths and weaknesses.

Methods: We assessed the performance of 22 leading chatbots, selected based on LMArena benchmark rankings, using 100 multiple-choice questions from the 2024 Taiwan psychiatry licensing examination, a nationally standardized test required for psychiatric licensure in Taiwan.

Despite the methodological spread of virtual photovoice, alignments to and potential advances for the participatory action research (PAR) and knowledge dissemination (KD) components of in-person photovoice are poorly understood. Detailing the PAR and KD processes, practices, and products drawn from a virtual photovoice study examining men's experiences of and perspectives about equitable intimate partner relationships, the current article offers three thematic findings. The first theme describes adapting established analytics of preview, review, and cross-photo comparisons to categorize and select images from a large collection of participant-produced photographs ( = 714).

Fast Feature- and Category-Related Parafoveal Previewing Support Free Visual Exploration.

J Neurosci

December 2024

Centre for Human Brain Health, School of Psychology, University of Birmingham, Birmingham B15 2TT, United Kingdom.

While humans typically saccade every ∼250 ms in natural settings, studies on vision tend to prevent or restrict eye movements. As it takes ∼50 ms to initiate and execute a saccade, this leaves only ∼200 ms to identify the fixated object and select the next saccade goal. How much detail can be derived about parafoveal objects in this short time interval, during which foveal processing and saccade planning both occur? Here, we had male and female human participants freely explore a set of natural images while we recorded magnetoencephalography and eye movements.

Article Synopsis
  • Biomolecular condensates play crucial roles in cell functions and diseases, but understanding their dynamics can be challenging.
  • Optogenetics provides a way to precisely control the condensation of proteins, allowing researchers to manipulate when and how these condensates form and dissolve.
  • The review covers the current methods of optogenetically controlling condensation, examines the proteins involved, and highlights both current applications and future possibilities in this field.

Presaccadic preview shapes postsaccadic processing more where perception is poor.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

September 2024

Department of Psychology and Center for Neural Science, New York University, New York, NY 10012.

The presaccadic preview of a peripheral target enhances the efficiency of its postsaccadic processing, termed the extrafoveal preview effect. Peripheral visual performance-and thus the quality of the preview-varies around the visual field, even at isoeccentric locations: It is better along the horizontal than vertical meridian and along the lower than upper vertical meridian. To investigate whether these polar angle asymmetries influence the preview effect, we asked human participants to preview four tilted gratings at the cardinals, until a central cue indicated which one to saccade to.
