The Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales Bernardino Rivadavia (MACN) possesses one of the most important Lepidoptera collections in South America. Here are deposited several type specimens of Lepidoptera, particularly of Arctiinae, described by Burmeister, Berg, Snellen, Jörgensen, Giacomelli, Orfila, and Forster. This study presents a catalogue with complete information and photographs of most type specimens of Arctiinae housed in the MACN. Additionally, we provide comments on the type material presumably deposited in MACN but not found by the authors. A total of seven lectotypes are designated and a new synonymy is proposed: Eurota (sic) julia Orfila, 1931 is a junior synonym of Eurata hermione Burmeister, 1878.

A preliminary ex vivo diffusion tensor imaging study of distinct aortic morphologies.

J Anat

January 2025

Trinity Centre for Biomedical Engineering, Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland.

Changes in the microstructure of the aortic wall precede the progression of various aortic pathologies, including aneurysms and dissection. Current clinical decisions with regards to surgical planning and/or radiological intervention are guided by geometric features, such as aortic diameter, since clinical imaging lacks tissue microstructural information. The aim of this proof-of-concept work is to investigate a non-invasive imaging method, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), in ex vivo aortic tissue to gain insights into the microstructure.

The Effect of Plaque Detectors on the Color Stability of Two Types of Restorative Materials.

J Esthet Restor Dent

January 2025

Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Science (DIBINEM), Alma Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna, Bologna, Italy.

Objective: To investigate the color stability of a one-shade resin-based composite material (RC) and a glass-ionomer cement (GIC) after staining with plaque detectors (PDs) with different formulations and delivery forms.

Materials And Methods: Rectangular-shaped specimens (7 × 3 × 2 mm) were produced with RC (Venus Diamond One, Kulzer) and GIC (Fujy IX GP, GC) (n = 30). Further, the following PDs were used on the specimens: (1) tablets (T; Plaq-Search, TePe); (2) mouthwash (M; Plaque Agent, Miradent); and (3) light-curing liquid (L; Plaque test, Ivoclar).

Assessment of tree-associated atypical myopathy risk factors in Acer pseudoplatanus (sycamore) seeds and leaves.

Equine Vet J

January 2025

Comparative Neuromuscular Diseases Laboratory, Department of Clinical Science and Services, The Royal Veterinary College, London, UK.

Background: Sycamore tree-derived hypoglycin A (HGA) toxin causes atypical myopathy (AM), an acute, equine pasture-associated rhabdomyolysis but incidence fluctuates.

Objectives: Investigate whether tree or environmental factors influence HGA concentration in sycamore material and are associated with AM relative risk.

Study Design: Retrospective and experimental prospective study.

Vacuolization of hematopoietic precursors cells is a common future of several otherwise non-related clinical settings such as VEXAS, Chediak-Higashi syndrome and Danon disease. Although these disorders have a priori nothing to do with one other from a clinical point of view, all share abnormal vacuolization in different cell types including cells of the erythroid/myeloid lineage that is likely the consequence of moderate to drastic dysfunctions in the ubiquitin proteasome system and/or the endo-lysosomal pathway. Indeed, the genes affected in these three diseases UBA1, LYST or LAMP2 are known to be direct or indirect regulators of lysosome trafficking and function and/or of different modes of autophagy.

Behaviour of 7.62x39mm tracer and API bullets in soft tissue.

Forensic Sci Int

January 2025

Department of Medical Biology, Amsterdam UMC, Meibergdreef 9, Amsterdam 1105 AZ, the Netherlands.

Some bullets, called tracer and API bullets, contain a pyrotechnical charge. The charge in the bottom of a tracer bullet burns in flight and enables the shooter or an observer to see the bullet's trajectory. An Armor Piercing Incendiary (API) bullet contains a hard core and a pyrotechnical charge that ignites on impact with a hard target.
