Interim Analysis of a Prospective Polysomnographic Study of Weighted Blankets in Patients with Psychophysiological Insomnia.

December 2024

Sleep and Disorders Unit, Division of Clinical Neurophysiology, Department of Neurology, Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, İstanbul, Türkiye.

Background: Weighted blankets have recently introduced in the treatment on insomnia as a nonpharmacological integrative therapy. Here we prospectively evaluated the effects of weighted blankets on the sleep structure and heart rate variability (HRV) in patients with primary psychophysiological insomnia.

Methods: In this prospective polysomnographic (PSG) study between August 2021 and August 2022, patients were given weighted blankets (~10% of body weight) to use at home for 10 nights consecutively.

Recently, we demonstrated that the oncolytic Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) strain PD-H can be efficiently adapted to resistant colorectal cancer cells through dose-dependent passaging in colorectal cancer cells. However, the method is time-consuming, which limits its clinical applicability. Here, we investigated whether the manufacturing time of the adapted virus can be reduced by replacing the dose-based passaging with volume-based passaging.

Islatravir (ISL) is the first-in-class nucleoside reverse transcriptase translocation inhibitor (NRTtI) with novel modes of action. Data on ISL resistance are currently limited, particularly to HIV-1 non-B subtypes. This study aimed to assess prevalent nucleos(t)ide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI)-resistant mutations in HIV-1 subtype C for their phenotypic resistance to ISL.

Comparative Evolutionary Epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 Delta and Omicron Variants in Kuwait.

Viruses

November 2024

Department of Public Health, Ministry of Health, P.O. Box 24923, Kuwait City 13110, Kuwait.

Continuous surveillance is critical for early intervention against emerging novel SARS-CoV-2 variants. Therefore, we investigated and compared the variant-specific evolutionary epidemiology of all the Delta and Omicron sequences collected between 2021 and 2023 in Kuwait. We used Bayesian phylodynamic models to reconstruct, trace, and compare the two variants' demographics, phylogeographic, and host characteristics in shaping their evolutionary epidemiology.
