A modified nonlinear reconstruction technique with a noise modulation parameter is proposed for interferenceless coded aperture correlation holography (I-COACH), and thus the signal-to-noise ratio of a reconstructed image is improved without sacrifice of the field of view and temporal resolution of the system. In order to obtain the optimal reconstructed image, no-reference structural sharpness (NRSS) is introduced as the evaluation metric of reconstructed image quality during nonlinear reconstruction. On the other hand, the noise modulation function is built in order to analyze the effect of phase on noise when the amplitude of the point spread hologram and object hologram is unity of 1. Both the NRSS and noise modulation functions are combined with nonlinear reconstruction in I-COACH for improving imaging performance. The validities of the proposed method under different experimental conditions have been demonstrated by experiments.

In order to investigate the influence of shear on contact characteristics and fluid flow evolution of rough rock fractures, a series of shear-flow tests were carried out by numerical experiments. Firstly, a sandstone specimen with a rough fracture was made in the laboratory, and the numerical model of the fracture was reconstructed in FLAC3D software. Experiments were conducted to investigate the depth of penetration of the fracture under different normal stress (1, 3, and 5 MPa) and shear displacement (2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 mm).

This technique integrates ghost imaging inspired by the human visual system with lateral inhibition and variable resolution to improve environmental perception in challenging conditions, such as poor lighting and dust. By emulating the high-resolution foveal vision of the human eye, this method significantly enhances the efficiency and quality of image reconstruction for fine targets within the region of interest (ROI).

Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) can originate from a variety of reasons, including water pollution coming from agriculture, effluent from treatment plants, sewage system leaks, pH and light levels, and the consequences of climate change. In recent years, HAB events have become a serious environmental problem, paralleling population growth, agricultural development, increasing air temperatures, and declining precipitation. Hence, it is crucial to identify the mechanisms responsible for the formation of HABs, accurately assess their short- and long-term impacts, and quantify their variations based on climate projections for developing accurate action plans and effectively managing resources.

This study delves into the examination of a network of adaptive synapse neurons characterized by a small-world network topology connected through electromagnetic flux and infused with randomness. First, this research extensively explores the existence of the global multi-stability of a single adaptive synapse-based neuron model with magnetic flux. The non-autonomous neuron model exhibits periodically switchable equilibrium states that are strongly related to the transitions between stable and unstable points in every whole periodic cycle, leading to the creation of global multi-stability.

Metagenomic sequencing deepened our knowledge about the role of the intestinal microbiota in human health, and several studies with various methodologies explored its dynamics during antibiotic treatments. We compared the impact of four widely used antibiotics on the gut bacterial diversity. We used plasma and fecal samples collected during and after treatment from healthy volunteers assigned to a 5-day treatment either by ceftriaxone (1 g every 24 h through IV route), ceftazidime/avibactam (2 g/500 mg every 8 h through IV route), piperacillin/tazobactam (1 g/500 mg every 8 h through IV route) or moxifloxacin (400 mg every 24 h through oral route).
