Based on the collection and analysis of essential data from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in recent ten years, the work provides the wastewater characteristics and energy consumption performance in full-scale membrane bioreactor (MBR) process in East Taihu basin, China. High-quality effluent was achieved although the influent carbon source was not beneficial to total nitrogen and total phosphorus removal. The average specific energy consumption (SEC) was 0.52 kWh/m, which was remarkably lower than that of full-scale MBR process in developed countries, however, the average SEC value was higher than that of conventional activated sludge (CAS) process in China. In addition, the SEC value was largely reduced in 2018, and the regulation of suction pump and aeration mode were considered as the main control methods. Energy consumption will increase along with the influent volume, while the elevation of COD and NH-N reduction will bring about relatively low energy consumption. Furthermore, sustainability index was established to comprehensively evaluate the performance of full-scale MBR process, meaning that with relatively low permeate ratio of effluent, full-scale MBR process presented to be inferior to CAS process in sustainability and not feasible to be applied in the upgradation and construction of WWTPs.

Methanol (ME) is a liquid hydrogen carrier, ideal for on-site-on-demand H generation, avoiding its costly and risky distribution issues, but this "ME-to-H" electric conversion suffers from high voltage (energy consumption) and competitive oxygen evolution reaction. Herein, we demonstrate that a synergistic cofunctional PtPd/(Ni,Co)(OH) catalyst with Pt single atoms (Pt) and Pd nanoclusters (Pd) anchored on OH-vacancy(V)-rich (Ni,Co)(OH) nanoparticles create synergistic triadic active sites, allowing for methanol-enhanced low-voltage H generation. For MOR, OH* is preferentially adsorbed on Pd and then interacts with the intermediates (such as *CHO or *CHOOH) adsorbed favorably on neighboring Pt with the assistance of hydrogen bonding from the surface hydrogen of (Ni,Co)(OH).

Energy poverty affects 550,000 homes in the Netherlands yet policy interventions to alleviate this issue are rare. Therefore, we test two energy coaching interventions in Amsterdam: a static information group (n = 67) which received energy efficient products and one energy-use report, and a smart information group (n = 50), which also had a display providing real-time feedback on energy-use. Results across both groups, show a 75% success rate for alleviating energy poverty.

Physisorption presents a promising alternative to cryogenic distillation for capturing the most potent greenhouse gas, SF, but existing adsorbents face challenges in meeting diverse chemical and engineering concerns. Herein, with insights into in-pore chemistry and industrial process design, we report a systematic investigation that constructed two low-cost composites pellets (Al(fum)@2%HPC and Al(fum)@5%Kaolin) coupled with an innovative two-stage Vacuum Temperature Swing Adsorption (VTSA) process for the ultra-efficient recovery of low-concentration SF from N. Record-high selectivities (> 2×10) and SF dynamic capacities (~ 2.

"Cell factory" strategy based on microbial anabolism pathways offers an intriguing alternative to relieve the dependence on fossil fuels, which are recognized as the main sources of CO2 emission. Typically, anabolism of intracellular substance in cell factory requires the consumption of sufficient reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP). However, it is of great challenge to modify the natural limited anabolism and to increase the insufficient level of NADPH and ATP to optimum concentrations without causing metabolic imbalance.

Non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations reveal the existence of a spontaneous heat current (SHC) in the absence of a temperature gradient and demonstrate ultra-high thermal rectification in asymmetric trapezoid-shaped graphene. These unique properties have potential applications in power generation and thermal circuits, functioning as thermal diodes. Our findings also show the presence of negative and zero thermal conductivity in this system.
