Stature estimation based on the mandibular bone measurements using three-dimensional images from postmortem computed tomography in a Japanese population.

Leg Med (Tokyo)

December 2024

Department of Forensic Sciences, Akita University Graduate School of Medicine, Akita, Japan; Department of Forensic Medicine, Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine, Sendai, Japan. Electronic address:

We aimed to evaluate the correlation between cadaver stature and mandibular bone measurements using three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) images and develop a stature estimation formula for a Japanese population. In total, 307 and 72 identified cadavers who underwent postmortem CT were selected as the "training" and "validation" datasets, respectively, to derive a stature estimation formula. Four mandibular bone measurements (linear distances between the bilateral mandibular condyles: C-C, from the mental spine to the mandibular condyle: S-C, between the bilateral mandibular foramen: F-F, and from the mental spine to the mandibular foramen: S-F) were obtained from 3D CT-reconstructed images that included only the mandibular bone.

Objective: Around 30% of people with schizophrenia are refractory to antipsychotic treatment (treatment-resistant schizophrenia). Abnormal structural neuroimaging findings, in particular volume and thickness reductions, are often described in schizophrenia. Novel biomarkers of active brain pathology such as neurofilament light chain protein are now expected to improve current understanding of psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia.

Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) stress techniques-including single-leg stress radiographs, Telos, and KT-1000 arthrometer-are highly accessible and can provide additional diagnostic information to assess ACL and ACL graft integrity. The degree of anterior tibial translation (ATT) may be useful in guiding treatment when a diagnosis on magnetic resonance imaging is not conclusive or for judging if additional treatments, such as anterolateral complex augmentation, may be necessary.

Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of increasing posterior tibial slope (PTS) on baseline tibial position (BTP) and side-to-side differences (SSD) in ATT.

Evaluation of Brain Impairment Using Proton Exchange Rate MRI in a Kainic Acid-Induced Rat Model of Epilepsy.

Mol Imaging Biol

January 2025

Paul C. Lauterbur Research Center for Biomedical Imaging, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.

Purpose: Proton exchange rate (K) is a valuable biophysical metric. K MRI may augment conventional structural MRI by revealing brain impairments at the molecular level. This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of K MRI in evaluating brain injuries at multiple epilepsy stages.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to analyze brain iron changes in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) using quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) to assist with early diagnosis and treatment.
  • A total of 34 AIS patients and 30 healthy controls underwent QSM and conventional MRI, revealing significant increases in susceptibility values in specific brain regions (bilateral caudate nucleus and putamen) in AIS patients compared to controls.
  • The study found that the highest diagnostic accuracy for distinguishing AIS from healthy individuals was 72.2%, while factors like smoking showed a notable correlation with increased susceptibility values, although overall clinical scores didn't significantly correlate with iron changes.
