The need for detailed structural characterization of glycerophospholipids (GPLs) for many types of biologically motivated applications has led to the development of novel mass spectrometry-based methodologies that utilize alternative ion activation methods. Ultraviolet photodissociation (UVPD) has shown great utility for localizing sites of unsaturation within acyl chains and to date has predominantly been used for positive mode analysis of GPLs. In the present work, UVPD is used to localize sites of unsaturation in GPL anions. Similar to UVPD mass spectra of GPL cations, UVPD of deprotonated or formate-adducted GPLs yields diagnostic fragment ions spaced 24 Da apart. This method was integrated into a liquid chromatography workflow and used to evaluate profiles of sites of unsaturation of lipids in () and . When assigning sites of unsaturation, was found to contain all unsaturation elements at the same position relative to the terminal methyl carbon of the acyl chain; the first carbon participating in a site of unsaturation was consistently seven carbons along the acyl chain when counting carbons from the terminal methyl carbon. GPLs from exhibited more variability in locations of unsaturation. For GPLs containing sites of unsaturation in both acyl chains, an MS method was devised to assign sites to specific acyl chains.

Compared to traditional liquid electrolytes, solid electrolytes have received widespread attention due to their higher safety. In this work, a vinyl functionalized metal-organic framework porous material (MIL-101(Cr)-NH-Met, noted as MCN-M) is synthesized by postsynthetic modification. A novel three-dimensional hybrid gel composite solid electrolyte (GCSE-P/MCN-M) is successfully prepared via in situ gel reaction of a mixture containing multifunctional hybrid crosslinker (MCN-M), lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI), ethylene carbonate (EC), diethylene glycol monomethyl ether methacrylate (EGM) and polyethylene (vinylidene fluoridee) (PVDF).

Disinfection by-products (DBPs), formed from biofilm extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) and organic matter during regular disinfection practices in drinking water distribution systems, poses a potential threat to drinking water safety. However, the diverse DBP formations induced by the intertwined algal organic matter (AOM) and bacterial EPS remains elusive. In this study, we show substantial variations in EPS and DBP formation patterns driven by AOM biosorption with divalent ions (Ca and Mg).

Background: α-Amylase (α-AMY) and α-glucosidase (α-GLU) inhibitors are important for controlling postprandial hyperglycemia (PHG). Bixa orellana (annatto) reported inhibitory activity against these enzymes because of its bioactive compound content. However, an understanding of its inhibitory mechanisms and metabolic profile is necessary to establish its therapeutic potential.

As an electronic specialty gas, nitrogen trifluoride (NF) has been widely used in the semiconductor, photovoltaic, and display industries. However, NF in industrial settings is typically mixed with CF, and the distillation method commonly used for their separation consumes significant energy. Herein, we propose a novel NF nanoadsorber featuring relatively proximal unsaturated metal sites.

Defect engineering is widely regarded as a promising strategy to enhance the performance of electrocatalysts for water splitting. In this work, defective NiFe layered double hydroxide (NiFe LDH) with a high density of edge sites (edge-rich NiFe LDH) is synthesized via a simple reduction process during the early stages of nucleation. The introduction of edges into oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts modulates the electronic structure of the active sites.
