Selçuk Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Parazitoloji Anabilim Dalı, Konya, Türkiye

Published: March 2020

Seven nematodes collected from a crushed turtle were brought to Selçuk University Faculty of Veterinary Parasitology Department. A few of them were transparented in lactophenol approximately for three weeks. After the parasites were cleared, their head regions were examined microscopically in apical and lateral positions. The posterior ends of the samples were also examined to separate male and females. According to the results of the microscopic examinations, it was found that five of seven parasites were female and remain two were male and parasites were identified as (Rudolphi, 1819) considering their morphological characteristics.

Quercetin, a vital flavonoid found in many medicinal plants, has shown anti-inflammatory, anti-cancerous, anti-aging, anti-tumour, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, and anti-protozoal activity. However, very little is known of its anthelmintic activity; there is no literature against tapeworm infection so far. The present study was performed to expose its cestocidal role by using the zoonotic tapeworm as a parasite model.

The Indo-Chinese green peafowl Pavo muticus imperator (Galliformes: Phasianidae) is an endangered bird species. However, our present knowledge of the species composition of nematode parasites of this bird remains limited. In the present study, two nematode parasites Heterakis pedioecetes Mawson, 1956 (Ascaridomorpha: Heterakoidea) and Synhimantus (Dispharynx) nasuta (Rudolphi, 1819) (Spiruromorpha: Acuarioidea) were reported from P.

September 2024

Parasitology Research Laboratory, Department of Zoology, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, West Bengal 731235 India.

The present study is aimed to investigate potential in vitro anthelmintic efficacy of two phenolic compounds Ferulic acid and Sinapic acid against the parasite . Adult parasites collected from infected rat's intestine (maintained in our laboratory) were treated with 1, 2.5, 5, 10 and 20 mg/mL concentrations of both the compounds in RPMI-1640 media containing 1% Tween 20.

Filaroid nematodes Setaria tundra (Issaitshikoff & Rajewskaya, 1928) and Setaria cervi (Rudolphi, 1819) are internal parasites from family Onchocercidae with occurrence in the northern hemisphere. They have a considerably wide range of final host, including many species of family Cervidae. Intermediate hosts and vectors at the same time, are represented by the several mosquito species, mostly of genus Aedes.
