In this study, nano selenium functionalized zinc oxide nanorods, NanoSe@ZnO-NR, was prepared, characterized and investigated for Hg(II) removal from waters of different types. The study results revealed that the material showed a superior adsorption capacity (q, 1110 mg g) and excellent distribution coefficient (K, 9.11 × 10 mL g) which is two or more orders above most of the adsorbents reported in the literature. It should be also known that, 30 mg of the adsorbent can quickly reduce 10 mg L Hg(II) to undetectable level from 10 mL of sample solution. The adsorption data were well explained with the pseudo-second order kinetic model and Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. Besides, the capturing capability of the material is independent on the pH change (2-12), selective against interfering cations, and exhibited fast kinetics (equilibrium time, ∼1 min). The NanoSe@ZnO-NR performance was also tested on real samples from different origin, surface waters (tap, lake and river) and wastewaters (effluent and influent), and complete removal and ≥99.2% removal efficiency was observed at 0.01 and 10 mg L spiking levels, respectively. Therefore, NanoSe@ZnO-NR can be considered as a potential adsorbent in advancing the wastewater treatment technology.

Cadmium, a toxic heavy metal, poses significant global concern. A strain of the genus Pseudomonas, CD3, demonstrating significant cadmium resistance (up to 3 mM CdCl.HO) was identified from a pool of 26 cadmium-resistant bacteria isolated from cadmium-contaminated soil samples from Malda, India.

Iron is a potent biochemical, and accurate homeostatic control is orchestrated by a network of interacting players at multiple levels. Although our understanding of organismal iron homeostasis has advanced, intracellular iron homeostasis is poorly understood, including coordination between organelles and iron export into the ER/Golgi. Here, we show that SLC39A13 (ZIP13), previously identified as a zinc transporter, promotes intracellular iron transport and reduces intracellular iron levels.

ZAP is an antiviral protein that binds to and depletes viral RNA, which is often distinguished from vertebrate host RNA by its elevated CpG content. Two ZAP cofactors, TRIM25 and KHNYN, have activities that are poorly understood. Here, we show that functional interactions between ZAP, TRIM25 and KHNYN involve multiple domains of each protein, and that the ability of TRIM25 to multimerize via its RING domain augments ZAP activity and specificity.

Irrespective of the specific see-through device, obtaining optimal transparency remains the primary goal. In this work, we introduce a general strategy to enhance the transparency of various see-through devices. We achieve this by structuring the colored functional materials into imperceptible three-dimensional mesh lines, addressing a common challenge in multi-layer structures where each layer causes a reduction in transparency due to their color or opacity.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) stand out among many energy storage systems due to their many merits, and it's expected to become an alternative to the prevailing alkali metal ion batteries. Nevertheless, the cumbersome manufacturing process and the high cost of conventional separators make them unfavorable for large-scale applications. Herein, inspired by the unique nature of cellulose and ZrO, a Janus cellulose fiber (CF)/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/ZrO separator is prepared via the vacuum filtration method.
