Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is leading form of cancer occurring in a few well-defined regions, including southern China. NPC possess a unique and intricate etiology that remains to be elucidated. Herein, we determine expression patterns of and and identify their roles in NPC. Gene-expression profiles of NPC in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) were analyzed. Cell viability, invasion, apoptosis, cell cycle entry and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) were evaluated in the presence of or in the absence of . In all, 187 upregulated genes and 683 downregulated genes were obtained by analyzing GSE13597. , the downregulated gene, and , the upregulated one, were further confirmed by studies. Overexpression of was shown to inhibit NPC cell viability and invasion. Knockdown of was demonstrated to reduce cell cycle entry and MMP but induce apoptosis in NPC cells. Taken together, the key finding obtained from the study supports and as two promising therapeutic candidates for NPC. Molecular mechanisms that control or disturbance require further investigation and clarification.

Rapid and sensitive detection of Epstein-Barr virus cell-free DNA (EBV cfDNA) is crucial for early diagnosis and monitoring of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), but accessibility to screening is limited by complicated and costly conventional DNA isolation and purification approaches. Here, a fully integrated ion concentration polarization (ICP)-enriched and nanozyme-catalyzed lateral flow assay (ICP-cLFA) is developed, enabling total analysis of EBV cfDNA in whole blood samples, with DNA isolation, pre-concentration, and amplification performed on a microfluidic chip, consequently providing the signal readout within 75 min. Specifically, ICP preconcentration and amplification steps, together with target recognition catalyzed by a platinum-decorated mesoporous gold nanosphere (MGNS@Pt) nanozyme, result in an ultralow detection limit of 4 aM in standard cfDNA samples and 100 aM in whole blood from NPC-bearing rats.

The tumor suppressor p53, in its wild-type form, plays a central role in cellular homeostasis by regulating senescence, apoptosis, and autophagy within the DNA damage response (DDR). Recent findings suggest that wild-type p53 also governs ferroptosis, an iron-dependent cell death process driven by lipid peroxidation. Post-translational modifications of p53 generate proteoforms that significantly enhance its functional diversity in regulating these mechanisms.

Purpose: Patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) experiencing locoregional recurrence concomitant with distant metastases (rmNPC) after initial treatment represent a unique subgroup with significant management challenges. This study aimed to evaluate overall survival (OS) in rmNPC patients treated with systemic therapies with or without radiotherapy.
Methods: This retrospective multicenter study included patients with locally recurrent and metastatic NPC from five hospitals.
