Schizophrenia has long been associated with dysfunction in visual perception. One important region underlying this is lateral occipital cortex (LOC), a mid-level visual region critical for object recognition. Although LOC of patients has exhibited structural and functional abnormalities in MR brain imaging studies, how it interacts with other networks over time under rest and with task demands remains to be clarified. The present study investigated the spatial-temporal interaction of LOC with other brain networks by examining functional connectivity communities of the brain over time. We found increased temporal instability of LOC connectivity over time under both resting and task-switching conditions in patients. In the resting state, LOC of patients had increased interaction with the frontoparietal task-control network (FPTC) and thalamus compared with controls, while during task switching, LOC showed increased interaction with the default mode network (DMN). Temporal instability of LOC connectivity was positively correlated with patients' switching cost during task performance and with hallucination severity. These results indicate that reduced stability of LOC connectivity may be an important factor underlying neurocognitive dysfunctions and symptom severity in schizophrenia.

Natural Braille reading presents significant challenges to the brain networks of late blind individuals, yet its underlying neural mechanisms remain largely unexplored. Using natural Braille texts in behavioral assessments and functional MRI, we sought to pinpoint the neural pathway and information flow crucial for Braille reading performance in late blind individuals. In the resting state, we discovered a unique neural connection between the higher-order 'visual' cortex, the lateral occipital cortex (LOC), and the inferior frontal cortex (IFC) in late blind individuals, but not in sighted controls.

Aims: To compare the changes in brain network topological properties and structure-function coupling in patients with complete spinal cord injury (CSCI) and incomplete spinal cord injury (ICSCI), to unveil the potential neurobiological mechanisms underlying the different effects of CSCI and ICSCI on brain networks and identify objective neurobiological markers to differentiate between CSCI and ICSCI patients.
Methods: Thirty-five SCI patients (20 CSCI and 15 ICSCI) and 32 healthy controls (HCs) were included in the study. Here, networks were constructed using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging to analyze functional connectivity (FC) and diffusion tensor imaging for structural connectivity (SC).

To analyze English discourse more accurately and provide more detailed feedback information, this study applies Rasch measurement and Conditional Random Field (CRF) models to English discourse analysis. The Rasch measurement model is widely used to evaluate and quantify the potential traits of individuals, and it has remarkable advantages in measurement and evaluation. By combining the CRF model, the Rasch model is employed to model the structural and semantic information in the discourse and use this model to carry out sequence labeling, to enhance the ability to capture the internal relations of the discourse.
