Pesticides are widely used in agriculture and their proven high toxicity makes the need of monitoring their presence in food imperative. A multi residue method is applied in apples samples (81) collected from the Greek market for the monitoring of 40 analytes. Pesticides levels were evaluated by gas and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry using a QuEChERs protocol. Risk for consumers was assessed by a newly developed methodology, employing the source related Hazard Quotient (HQs) and the adversity specific Hazard Index (HI). The 84% of the apple's samples were positive for at least one pesticide, 21% for one pesticide, 55.6% for two to four pesticide residues and 7.4% for more than 4 pesticide residues. The most frequently detected compound was carbendazim (45.7%) followed by chlorpyrifos (44.4.0%). The mean detected concentration levels varied from 0.169 ppm (fluopyram) to 0.005 ppm (triazophos). 19 of the 40 investigated pesticides were not detected in any apple sample. For all individual pesticides, the source related Hazard Quotient (HQs) was <1 indicating no risk. HI, resulting from the sum of all HQs was found HI < 1 in nine out of ten toxicity groups, except to the neurotoxicity group, which presented HI 2.258, indicating moderate risk.

The high cost of gluten-free products (GFPs) is being discussed as a potential barrier to adherence to a gluten-free diet, rendering monitoring of their pricing an ongoing demand in a market subject to continuous fluctuations. The current study aimed to assess the current pricing status of GFPs in the Greek retail market, with a focus on differences between staple and non-staple foods. The retail price and packaging weight of all available GFPs and their gluten-containing (GCPs) counterparts of a GFP-shopping basket (formulated based on the results of a preceding online survey) were recorded by visiting one store of the five most popular reported supermarket chains.

The Pharmacovigilance system is aimed to promote and protect public health by ensuring the availability of essential medicines in the market and reducing the burden of ADRs. Pharmacovigilance is derived from two words; pharamakon rooted in the Greek word that means medicinal substance and vigilia rooted in the Latin word to keep watch. This concept evolved after Hannah Greener died in 1848 after having a tonsillectomy with chloroform.

Objective: The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the relationship between periodontitis, potential periodontitis oral fluid biomarkers, and prediabetes.
Materials And Methods: This study included 150 Greek adults aged 25 to 78 years who were tested with an Hemoglobin A1C (HBA1c) diagnostic system, an active-matrix metalloproteinase-8 (aMMP-8) point-of-care (PoC) test, and several salivary biomarkers enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay tests and gelatin zymography. A full-mouth clinical examination was performed to assess their periodontal and oral health status.

Nutritional value of the Gluten-free products (GFPs) has been highly debated. Aiming to assess the nutritional value of the cereal-based GFPs in the Greek market, information from the nutritional label and the ingredients list, of all GFPs and their gluten-containing (GC) counterparts available in a supermarket offering the greatest availability in the capital of Greece, were recorded. The sample consisted of 913 products: 351 GFPs and 562 GCPs, classified into 12 categories (e.

Healthy dietary habits encourage vegetable consumption. Although pesticide use in crops may negatively affect human health through food intake, it can also contaminate aquatic and terrestrial environments. Thus, monitoring pesticides in high-consumption matrices is crucial.
