Research indicates that academic performance is increased when intrinsic factors motivate students. Although students may be intrinsically motivated to attend a graduate program, not all topics will be inherently interesting, leaving students to rely on extrinsic factors for motivation. This article proposes that educators use Ryan and Deci's organismic integration theory to design assignments that foster the integration of extrinsic motivation. We describe how a virtual poster session assignment was created in an online nursing education course using the principles of organismic integration theory.

Spatiotemporal profile of an optimal host response to virus infection in the primate central nervous system.

Viral infections of the central nervous system (CNS) are a major cause of morbidity largely due to lack of prevention and inadequate treatments. While mortality from viral CNS infections is significant, nearly two thirds of the patients survive. Thus, it is important to understand how the human CNS can successfully control virus infection and recover.

The aging process is marked by a time-dependent deterioration in cellular functions, particularly the immune and neural systems. Understanding the phenotype acquisition of microglia, the sentinel immune cells of the brain, is crucial for understanding the nature of age-related neurological diseases. However, the specific phenotype adopted by microglia during aging remains a subject of debate and is contingent on the chosen experimental model.

Ocean acidification and warming are significant stressors impacting marine ecosystems, exerting profound effects on the physiological ecology of marine organisms. We investigated the impact of ocean acidification and warming on the immune system of mussels, focusing on the regulatory mechanisms of intrinsic and extrinsic apoptosis. The study explored the effects on the immune response ability of mussels (Mytilus coruscus) after 14 and 21 days under combined conditions of different temperatures (20 °C and 30 °C) and pH (8.

The rapid advance of large-scale atlas-level single cell RNA sequences and single-cell chromatin accessibility data provide extraordinary avenues to broad and deep insight into complex biological mechanism. Leveraging the datasets and transfering labels from scRNA-seq to scATAC-seq will empower the exploration of single-cell omics data. However, the current label transfer methods have limited performance, largely due to the lower capable of preserving fine-grained cell populations and intrinsic or extrinsic heterogeneity between datasets.
