AI Article Synopsis

  • The study focuses on a method called vapour-phase surface-initiated cationic polymerisation, specifically using ethylvinylether on single-crystals of a certain rhodium complex.
  • This new approach effectively makes materials that are usually sensitive to air more resistant to it, improving their usability.
  • Additionally, the technique allows for continued chemical reactions between single crystals, particularly at the metal sites of the crystal structure.

Article Abstract

Vapour-phase surface-initiated cationic polymerisation of ethylvinylether occurs at single-crystals of the σ-alkane complex [Rh(CyPCHCHPCy)(NBA)][BAr]. This new surface interface makes these normally very air sensitive materials tolerant to air, while also allowing for onward single-crystal to single-crystal reactivity at metal sites within the lattice.

Recovery Following Recurrent Fires Across Mediterranean Ecosystems.

Glob Chang Biol

December 2024

Faculdade de Ciências, Instituto Dom Luiz, Universidade de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal.

In fire-prone regions such as the Mediterranean biome, fire seasons are becoming longer, and fires are becoming more frequent and severe. Post-fire recovery dynamics is a key component of ecosystem resilience and stability. Even though Mediterranean ecosystems can tolerate high exposure to extreme temperatures and recover from fire, changes in climate conditions and fire intensity or frequency might contribute to loss of ecosystem resilience and increase the potential for irreversible changes in vegetation communities.

Background: Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune disease manifested by depigmented patches of skin devoid of melanocytes. Baricitinib, a JAK inhibitor selectively targeting JAK1/2, has shown preliminary efficacy for vitiligo. We aimed to assess the efficacy and tolerability of combination therapy with baricitinib and narrowband UV-B (NB-UVB) to treat active nonsegmental vitiligo (NSV).

Cold atmospheric plasma has recently gained much attention due to its antimicrobial effects. Among others, plasma has proven its potential to combat microbial biofilms. Yet, knowledge of complex network interactions between individual microbial species in natural infection environments of the biofilm as well as plasma-biofilm inactivation pathways is limited.

The human-mediated transportation of stowaway individuals to non-native regions is a major driver of new biological invasions, and the post-establishment spread of the invader in its introduced range. In order for the stowaway individuals to successfully establish in the non-native region, they must survive the harsh conditions during the journey (e.g.
