Effects of Longer-Term Mixed Nut Consumption on Lipoprotein Particle Concentrations in Older Adults with Overweight or Obesity.

Nutrients

December 2024

Department of Nutrition and Movement Sciences, NUTRIM Institute of Nutrition and Translational Research in Metabolism, Maastricht University Medical Center, 6229 ER Maastricht, The Netherlands.

Background: Recently, we reported that longer-term mixed nut intake significantly reduced serum total and low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, but these markers may not fully capture lipoprotein-related cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk.

Objectives: This randomized, controlled, single-blinded, crossover trial in older adults with overweight or obesity examined the effects of longer-term mixed nut consumption on lipoprotein particle size, number, and lipid distribution.

Methods: Twenty-eight participants (aged 65 ± 3 years; BMI 27.

Background And Aims: To explore the predictive value of the triglyceride-glucose(TyG)index combined with non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (Non-HDL-C) in coronary atherosclerotic heart disease (CHD).

Methods And Results: We retrospectively collected patients who were suspected of CHD and underwent coronary angiography in Yiwu Central Hospital and collected medical history, other serum biochemical evaluation and echocardiography from the enrolled population, Non-HDL-C and TyG indices were calculated, and their correlation with Gensini score was analyzed. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the risk factors of coronary heart disease, and ROC curves were plotted to assess the predictive value of CHD in subjects with single or multiple indices.

Objectives: To investigate serum lipid profile in early, treatment-naïve psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and to determine whether changes in classical lipids or apolipoproteins are specific to PsA.

Methods: Total cholesterol, non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-c), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), HDL-c, triglycerides, apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) were compared in newly diagnosed untreated PsA patients (n=75) to sex- and age-matched controls (healthy control (HC)) (n=61) and early untreated rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients (n=50).

Results: Among classical lipid measurements, HDL-c levels were lower in PsA than in HC and RA (df 2, χ10, p=0.

The prevalence of childhood obesity is rising globally, with some obese children progressing to develop metabolic syndrome (MS). However, the specific differences between these groups remain unclear. To investigate the differences in gut microbiota, we conducted physiological and biochemical assessments, alongside 16S rRNA sequencing, in a cohort of 32 children from Southeastern China, which included 4 normal-weight children, 5 with mild obesity, 9 with moderate obesity, 9 with severe obesity, and 5 with metabolic syndrome.

Lysoglycerophospholipid metabolism alterations associated with ambient fine particulate matter exposure: Insights into the pro-atherosclerotic effects.

Environ Pollut

January 2025

SKL-ESPC & SEPKL-AERM, College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, and Center for Environment and Health, Peking University, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

The biological pathways connecting ambient fine particulate matter (PM)-induced initial adverse effects to the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases are not fully understood. We hypothesize that lysoglycerophospholipids (LysoGPLs) are pivotal mediators of atherosclerosis induced by exposure to PM. This study investigated the changes of LysoGPLs in response to PM exposure and the mediation role of LysoGPLs in the pro-atherosclerotic effects of PM exposure.
