Reaction of Fe(CO)Br with 2-aminopyridine and 2-aminonapthalene yields ferracyclic iron(ii) complexes bearing two CO ligands. Irradiation with visible light releases these two CO molecules. Substitution of a halide in the parent complexes by thioglucose provides significantly enhanced water solublity and raises the quantum yield for CO release by around five times. The complexes show anti-inflammatory activity in a TNF assay in the dark.

The urgent etiological diagnosis represents the main management objective of cervical spondylodiscitis (CSD) to start as soon as possible antibiotic treatment to prevent neurological deterioration. The present study aimed to evaluate a multicenter experience implementing a minimally invasive surgical approach (MISA) to manage CSD such pathology vs the most complex and aggressive surgical strategies currently used. This retrospective multicenter study used a database of 70 patients from five European neurosurgical centers.

Background: Women with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) face complexities of disease management during pregnancy and childbirth. Apprehension regarding vaginal delivery in pregnant individuals with IBD persists due to concern for perianal disease and perineal trauma. The incidence of poor wound healing after obstetric anal sphincter injury is approximately 4% in the general population.

Nobiletin (NOB), a lipid-soluble polymethoxyflavone with potent antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, suffers from poor stability and pH sensitivity, limiting its bioavailability. In this study, Pickering high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs) stabilized by soy protein isolate (SPI) and κ-carrageenan (KC) were developed to encapsulate and protect NOB. The emulsions, containing a 75 % medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) volume fraction, were optimized by investigating the effects of pH and KC concentration on the key properties such as the creaming index, particle size, zeta potential, microstructure, and rheology.

Curcumin has a wide range of application prospects, with various bioactivities in the food industry and in the biomedical field. However, curcumin has poor water solubility and is sensitive to pH, light and temperature. In this study, curcumin-chitooligosaccharide (CUR-COS) complexes were prepared via mechanochemical methods, and the CUR-COS complex was more soluble after freeze-drying (up to 862-fold greater than that of curcumin).

Musculoskeletal pain has a high prevalence of transition to chronic pain and/or persistence as chronic pain for years or even a lifetime. Possible mechanisms for the development of such pain states are often reflected in inflammatory or neuropathic processes involving, among others, cytokines and other molecules. Since biologics such as blockers of TNF or IL-6 can attenuate inflammation and pain in a subset of patients with rheumatoid arthritis, the question arises to what extent cytokines are involved in the generation of pain in human musculoskeletal diseases.
