In this study, the influence of drying conditions on amine (-NH) functionalization of graphene oxide (GO) was evaluated, and the hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) adsorption efficiency of the prepared materials was compared. 3-[2-(2-aminoehtylamino) ethylamino]propyl-trimethoxysilane (3N) was used for amine functionalization. The synthesized materials were analyzed by SEM, BET, TGA, XPS, and EA. TGA results showed that the solution-GO (SGO) was functionalized by more 3N molecules than freeze-dried GO (FDGO) and oven-dried GO (ODGO). Additionally, XPS analysis also showed that the ratio of N/C and Si/C was relatively high in SGO than FDGO and ODGO. The maximum adsorption capacity of SGO, FDGO, and ODGO for Cr(VI) was 258.48, 212.46, and 173.45 mg g, respectively. These results indicate that it is better to use SGO without drying processes for efficient amine functionalization and Cr(VI) removal. However, when the drying process is required, freeze-drying is better than oven-drying.

Cellulose composites have exceptional qualities, particularly in removing heavy metal ions. Nevertheless, these materials' poor mechanical qualities and the restricted exposure of surface-active sites reduce the effectiveness of their removal. The removal efficiency of adsorbent materials largely depends on their macroscopic structural characteristics.

This study aimed to examine the dose-response effects of polyphenon-60 derived from green tea (P60-GT) on hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)]-induced genotoxic damage and apoptosis. Male Hsd:ICR mice were divided into 4 groups: (1) Control (vehicle only), (2) P60-GT (15, 30, or 45 mg/kg gavage), (3) Cr(VI) (20 mg/kg of CrO intraperitoneally), and (4) P60-GT+CrO (P60-GT administered 4 hr before CrO). Peripheral blood samples were collected at 24, 48, and 72 hr to assess the number of micronuclei (MN), apoptosis, and cell viability, while plasma 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels were measured at 0 and 48 hr.

The synthesis of coal bottom ash-induced zeolite (Si-Al material) has been widely reported; however, the selective recovery of the three main elements, viz., Si, Al, and Fe, from coal bottom ash for the synthesis of reactive adsorbents has not yet been reported. In this study, we separated the magnetic and non-magnetic fractions of coal bottom ash to selectively recover Fe and Si-Al for synthesizing nanoscale zero-valent iron@zeolite (NZVI@ZBA) composites with uniform formation of Fe(0) nanoparticles on the ZBA surface.

In China, a significant amount of coal fly ash is stored or used for landfill reclamation. The contaminants in coal fly ash (CFA) leachate can cause regional soil and groundwater contamination during long-term storage. This paper focuses on a coal gangue comprehensive utilisation power plant in Fenyang City, Shanxi Province, China, where the leaching characteristics of CFA were investigated by leaching tests.

As one of the most harmful heavy metal pollutants, hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) is becoming a serious threat to human health. Thus pursuing a remarkably sensitive method to monitor the Cr(VI) concentration in natural conditions is favored for the fast response to prevent harm. In the present work, an ethylenediamine (En) and SiO-modified wool keratin-based carbon quantum dot (CQD)(En@CQDs@SiO) fluorescent sensor is prepared, and the En is found to improve the discrimination ability by binding the Cr(VI) with the surface carboxyl groups.
