Background: Lung cancer is a form of cancer that is responsible for the largest incidence of deaths attributed to cancer worldwide. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most prevalent of all the subtypes of the disease. Treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) may help some people who have been diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer.

Introduction: Mutations in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) kinase domain consistently activate downstream signaling pathways, such as the PI3K/AKT/mTOR and RAS/RAF/MEK, thereby promoting tumor growth. Although the majority of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients harboring EGFR mutations are sensitive to existing EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs), there remains an unmet clinical need for effective therapies targeting EGFR Ex20ins mutations, making direct targeting EGFR Ex20ins mutations a promising therapeutic strategy.

Areas Covered: This review covers the progress of clinical studies targeting EGFR Ex20ins inhibitors and summarizes recent (1 January 2019 - 30 April 2024) patents disclosing EGFR Ex20ins inhibitors available in the Espacenet and CAS SciFinder databases.

Heat stress affects various components of photosynthetic machinery of which Rubisco activation inhibition due to heat sensitive Rubisco activase (RCA) is the most prominent. Detailed comparison of RCA coding genes identified a tandem duplication event in the grass family lineage where the duplicated genes showed very different evolutionary pattern. One of the two genes showed high level of sequence conservation whereas the second copy, although present only 1.

Department of Radiology, Renji Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Pujian Road 160, Pudong District, 200127, Shanghai, China.

Background: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. Recent advent of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) has significantly improved the prognosis of GIST patients. However, responses to TKI therapy can vary depending on the specific gene mutation.

Background:  Spinal muscular atrophy linked to chromosome 5q (SMA-5q) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by mutations in the gene.

Objective:  To describe the key demographic, clinical and genetic characteristics, as well as natural history data of patients with SMA-5q.

Methods:  Up to January 2022, 706 patients with confirmed genetic diagnosis of SMA-5q, or their parents, completed a self-reported questionnaire on natural history, genetic characteristics, drug treatments, and multidisciplinary care.
