Objective: To establish normative values and reference equations of the 6-minute walk test (6MWT), incremental shuttle walk test (ISWT) and unsupported upper limb exercise test (UULEX) for Portuguese adults.
Design: Cross-sectional study. Descriptive statistics and differences between age decades and genders were explored using univariate general linear models to compute reference values. Reference equations were established with a forward stepwise multiple regression.
Setting: General community.
Participants: In total, 645 adult volunteers without disabilities [43% male, mean age 55.1 (standard deviation 23.6) years] were recruited from the university campus and surrounding community.
Intervention: Not applicable.
Main Outcome Measures: Data on age, gender, height, weight, body mass index and smoking status were collected using a structured questionnaire. Physical activity was evaluated using the Brief Physical Activity Assessment Tool. Participants performed two repetitions of the 6MWT, ISWT and UULEX, and the best repetition was used for analysis.
Results: Overall, performance was better in males than in females, and decreased with age. Participants' performance was significantly reduced after the sixth decade of life compared with the other decades (P<0.001). Reference equations were: 6MWT=226.93-(5.00×age)+(360.41×height), R=71%; ISWT=393.81-(17.98×age)+(185.64×gender)+(775.88×height), R=83%; and UULEX=16.71-(0.14×age)+(2.66×gender), R=57%.
Conclusion: Leg or arm exercise field tests are affected significantly by age and gender. These results will aid health professionals to interpret the results of field tests obtained from healthy or diseased adult populations.

In a novel, on-road study, using a 'Ghost Driver' to emulate an automated vehicle (AV), we captured over 10 hours of video (n = 520) and 64 survey responses documenting the behaviour and attitudes of pedestrians in response to the AV. Three prototype external human-machine interfaces (eHMIs) described the AV's behaviour, awareness and intention using elements of anthropomorphism: High (human face), Low (car motif), Abstract (partial representation of human features that lacked precise visual reference); these were evaluated against a (no eHMI) baseline. Despite many pedestrians reporting that they still relied on vehicular cues to negotiate their crossing, there was a desire/expectation expressed for explicit communication with future AVs.

Dengue is one of the most prevalent viruses transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Currently, no specific medication is available to treat dengue diseases. The NS2B-NS3 protease is vital during post-translational processing, which is a key target in this study.

This study addresses the use of other echinocandins as surrogate markers to predict the susceptibility of rezafungin against the six most common spp. The Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) reference broth microdilution method was performed to test 5,720 clinical isolates of six different species. Species-specific interpretative criteria by CLSI breakpoints or epidemiological cutoff values were applied.

The LI-RADS Ultrasound Surveillance algorithm was updated in 2024, incorporating alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and visualization score of VIS-C into management recommendations after nonpositive results. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of LI-RADS Ultrasound Surveillance version 2017 (v2017) and version 2024 (v2024) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) detection in at-risk patients and to identify predictors of VIS-C on follow-up surveillance examinations. This retrospective analysis included 407 patients (median age, 56 years; 230 male, 177 female) with cirrhosis who underwent rounds of semi-annual surveillance ultrasound as part of a prospective trial from November 2011 to December 2012.

Most current highly efficient organic solar cells utilize small molecules like Y6 and its derivatives as electron acceptors in the photoactive layer. In this work, a small molecule acceptor, SC8-IT4F, is developed through outer side chain engineering on the terminal thiophene of a conjugated 6,12-dihydro-dithienoindeno[2,3-d:2',3'-d']-s-indaceno[1,2-b:5,6-b']dithiophene (IDTT) central core. Compared to the reference molecule C8-IT4F, which lacks outer side chains, SC8-IT4F displays notable differences in molecule geometry (as shown by simulations), thermal behavior, single-crystal packing, and film morphology.
