Metallic glasses deform elastically under stress. However, the atomic-level origin of elastic properties of metallic glasses remain unclear. In this Letter using ab initio molecular dynamics simulations of the Cu_{50}Zr_{50} metallic glass under shear strain, we show that the heterogeneous stress relaxation results in the increased charge transfer from Zr to Cu atoms, enhancing the softening of the shear modulus. Changes in compositional short-range order and atomic position shifts due to the nonaffine deformation are discussed. It is shown that the Zr subsystem exhibits a stiff behavior, whereas the displacements of Cu atoms from their initial positions, induced by the strain, provide the stress drop and softening.

Harmless and efficient nickel enrichment from nickel-containing waste slag using vitrification technology.

With the growing demand for nickel in the stainless steel and battery industries, conventional methods of extracting nickel from ores face challenges such as high production costs and environmental concerns. This study proposes a new process for the recovery of nickel metal and the production of nickel-iron alloys from nickel-bearing scrap. The reduction rates of nickel and iron oxides were investigated by optimizing the roasting temperature, time, and C/O ratio, and the process was optimized using response surface methodology (RSM).

A soda lime glass substrate is used for fabricating CuZnSnS (CZTS) thin films using copper (II) sulfide (CuS), zinc sulfide (ZnS), and tin sulfide (SnS) targets using an advanced co-sputtering deposition process. Following that, the films are annealed at 470 °C without sulfur (S). An algorithm based on the deposition rate of the previously specified targets set the co-sputtering condition, which maintains a deposition pressure of 5, 10, 15, and 20 mTorr.

Design and synthesis of fluorinated polyimides with low thermal expansion and enhanced dielectric properties.

J Colloid Interface Sci

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang, Jiangsu 212013, PR China. Electronic address:

Modern microelectronics industries urgently require dielectric materials with low thermal expansion coefficients, low dielectric constants, and minimal dielectric loss. However, the design principles of materials with low dielectric constants and low thermal expansion are contradictory. In this study, a new diamine monomer containing a dibenzocyclooctadiene unit (DBCOD-NH) was designed and synthesized, which was subsequently polymerized with high fluorine content 4,4'-hexafluoroisopr-opylidene diphthalic anhydride and 4,4'-diamino-2,2'-bis(trifleoromethyl)biphenyl to obtain a series of fluorinated polyimides (PIs).

Background: Multifunctional fluorescent probes have attracted much attention due to their wide range of applications and high utilization. In this study, a multifunctional fluorescent probe (E)-3-(4-(7-(4-(diphenylamino)phenyl)benzo[c] [1,2,5]thiadiazol-4-yl)phenyl)acrylic acid (TBAC) based on triphenylamine was designed and synthesized.

Results: The TBAC probe provided excellent aggregation-induced emission (AIE) performance and could be used as a fluorescent ink for printing.

Graduate Institute of Biomedical Materials and Tissue Engineering, College of Biomedical Engineering, Taipei Medical University, 6F Biomedical Technology Building, No. 301, Yuantong Rd., Zhonghe Dist., New Taipei City, 23564, Taiwan.

Background And Objective: Osteoarthritis is a widespread and debilitating condition, particularly affecting the medial compartment of knee joint due to varus knee deformities. Medial opening wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) has emerged as an effective treatment, but it comes with challenges like fractures, correction loss, and nonunion, leading to unsatisfactory results in up to 26 % of patients. In response, our study explores the potential of a bioabsorbable magnesium-based bulk metallic glass composite (MgZnCa BMGC) enriched with molybdenum particles as an innovative solution for MOWHTO.
