This study reports a new amphiphilic bioconjugate (CAFF-LA) derived from the lipoylation of a hydroxyethyl derivative of caffeine. In water, CAFF-LA self-assembles into nanospheres with an average size of 155 nm, as evidenced from dynamic light scattering and electron microscopy studies. The nanospheres are stable in serum and could be disintegrated upon exposure to the reducing environment of dithiothreitol (DTT; 10 mM) and glutathione (GSH; 10 mM). These nanospheres easily encapsulate the chemotherapy medication, doxorubicin (DOX), and demonstrate an efficacious transport into doxorubicin-resistant cervical cancer (HeLa) cells, wherein a marked induction in apoptosis and significantly lower IC have been observed when compared to that of free drug. The in vitro assessment of cell viability and hemocompatibility present these nanospheres as potentially safe and efficient intracellular reduction stimulus-responsive drug-delivery vehicles.

The improper handling and uncontrolled discharge of toxic organic dyes result in significant adverse effects on both human health and the environment. This study investigates the fabrication of SnO₂, yttrium and cobalt dual-doped SnO₂ (YCSn), chitosan-capped SnO₂ (CS*Sn), and chitosan-capped yttrium and cobalt dual-doped SnO₂ (CS*YCSn) nanoparticles using a one-step coprecipitation method for the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light irradiation. Characterization techniques including X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometry confirm the successful synthesis of biodegradable CS*YCSn nanoparticles.

Background: There is a growing interest in exploring the biological characteristics of nanoparticles and exploring their potential applications. However, there is still a lack of research into the potential genotoxicity of fullerene derivatives and their impact on gene expression in human cells. In this study, we investigated the effects of a water-soluble fullerene derivative, C60[C6H4SCH2COOK]5H (F1), on human embryonic lung fibroblasts (HELF).

Food allergy is increasingly prevalent and poses notable health risks, which underscores the urgent need to develop reliable and sensitive detection methods for effective identification of food allergens. This study aims to address the limitations of existing methods by developing an immunoassay utilizing bacteriophage/carbon dots (CDs)@silica core-shell nanospheres. Two CDs with different emission wavelengths (513 nm for Green CDs, 645 nm for Red CDs) were synthesized for signal development and amplification.

Crop plants are severely affected by heavy metals (HMs), leading to food scarcity and economical loss. Lead (Pb) is outsourced by use of lead-based fertilizers, batteries, mining, smelting and metal processing. It significantly reduces growth, development and yield of crops cultivated on contaminated sites.

Photocatalytically reducing CO into high-value-added chemical materials has surfaced as a viable strategy for harnessing solar energy and mitigating the greenhouse effect. But the inadequate separation of the photogenerated electron-hole pair remains a major obstacle to CO photoreduction. Constructing heterostructure photocatalysts with efficient interface charge transfer is a promising approach to solving the above problems.
