Anabolic steroids have attracted attention from the media with regard to misuse, but overuse of medically prescribed steroids also has a propensity to cause harm. Gluteal necrotising soft tissue infections are an uncommon presentation for plastic surgeons, and therefore, abdominal sources may be overlooked. We report a rare case of a 57-year-old male who presented with a necrotising lower limb infection on a background of long-term corticosteroid overuse and recurrent pelvic anastomotic leaks.

Background: Speckle-type POZ protein (SPOP), FAS-associated protein with death domain (FADD), and nuclear transcription factor-κB (NF-κB) have been shown to be associated with the development of prostate cancer (PCa). FADD has been shown to activate the NF-κB pathway to promote tumorigenesis, while SPOP has been shown to enhance the breakdown of FADD and inhibit the function of the NF-κB signaling pathway in non-small cell lung cancer. Chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) is the most severe manifestation of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and imposes a significantly high burden due to its high risk of mortality and amputation. Revascularization is the first-line treatment for CLTI; however, the amputation rate remains high, and approximately one-third of patients are not eligible for this treatment. Therefore, there is an urgent need for more effective therapeutic strategies.
