Colorimetric biosensors have been widely applied to mycotoxins testing. However, the colorimetric assay previously reported used a single color to detect one mycotoxin, and there were few reports on the simultaneous detection of multiple mycotoxins. In this work, a colorimetric biosensor for dual mycotoxins detection was developed. A FeO/GO based platform for aflatoxins B1 (AFB1) detection and a FeO@Au based platform for ochratoxin A (OTA) detection were fabricated. The quantification of OTA and AFB1 was respectively achieved by the release of thymolphthalein under alkaline conditions and 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine was catalyzed by Au NPs under acidic conditions. Because of different conditions, two sensing methods didn't interfere with each other but could provide a higher detection efficiency. The detection range of AFB1 is 5-250 ng·ml and that of OTA is 0.5-80 ng·ml. This biosensor has been successfully applied in real sample detection, which has a broad application prospect in fields of food safety.

A dual-signal aptamer-based assay utilizing colorimetric and fluorescence techniques was developed for the determination of zearalenone (ZEN). The CdTe quantum dots, serving as the fluorescent signal source, were surface-modified onto FeO@SiO and subsequently functionalized with the aptamer. The COF-Au was modified with complementary chain, which possessed peroxide (POD)-like enzyme properties, and could catalyze the peroxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to ox TMB, resulting in the generation of colorimetric signals.

A novel approach to developing lateral flow assays (LFAs) for the detection of CYFRA 21-1 (cytokeratin 19 fragment, a molecular biomarker for epithelial-origin cancers) is proposed. Magnetic bioconjugates (MBCs) were employed in combination with advanced optical and magnetic tools to optimize assay conditions. The approach integrates such techniques as label-free spectral-phase interferometry, colorimetric detection, and ultrasensitive magnetometry using the magnetic particle quantification (MPQ) technique.

Accurate methods for assessing food freshness through colorimetric pH response play a critical role in determining food spoilage and ensuring food quality standards. This study introduces a novel unlabeled DNA sequence, poly-dA, designed to exploit the colorimetric properties of both the single strand and the fold-back A-motif structure in conjunction with gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) under varying pH conditions. When exposed to storage temperatures of 4 °C and 25 °C, the color variations in the AuNP solution, influenced by pH level changes in mutton and sea bass samples' different storage periods, are easily discernible to the naked eye within a minute.

Hypoxia, characterized by inadequate tissue oxygenation, may result in tissue damage and organ failure if not addressed. Current detection approaches frequently prove insufficient, depending on symptoms and rudimentary metrics such as tissue oxygenation, which fail to comprehensively identify the onset of hypoxia. The European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) has recognized sweat lactate as a possible marker for the early identification of decubitus ulcers, nevertheless, neither sweat lactate nor oxygenation independently provides an appropriate diagnosis of hypoxia.
