Liquid biopsies are not used in practice for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Epi proColon is the first commercial blood-based test for colorectal cancer screening based on methylated DNA testing of the septin 9 gene (). However, Epi proColon has some disadvantages, including the requirement of a large amount of blood and lack of quantitative performance. Therefore, we previously developed a novel liquid biopsy test that can quantitatively detect even a single copy of methylated in a small amount of DNA. In the current study, we evaluated the application potential of this assay for diagnosing HCC. Study subjects included 80 healthy volunteers, 45 patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) without HCC, and 136 patients with HCC (stage 0, 12; stage A, 50; stage B, 31; stage C, 41; and stage D, 2), according to the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer staging system. For the assay, DNA was treated with methylation-sensitive restriction enzymes in two steps, followed by multiplex droplet digital polymerase chain reaction. The median copy number of methylated was 0.0, 2.0, and 6.4 in the healthy control, CLD, and HCC groups, respectively, with significant differences among the groups (HCC vs. healthy control, < 0.001; HCC vs. CLD, = 0.002; CLD vs. healthy control, = 0.008). Assay sensitivity and specificity were 63.2% and 90.0%, respectively (cutoff value, 4.6 copies), in detecting HCC when compared with healthy subjects. The positive rate of methylated increased with HCC progression (stage 0, 41.7%; stage A, 58.0%; stage B, 61.3%; stage C, 75.6%; and stage D, 100%). : We developed a sensitive methylated assay that might serve as a liquid biopsy test for diagnosing HCC.

To understand the habitat distribution characteristics of in summer in Jiangsu coastal waters, we analyzed the relationship between resource density and habitat environment of by using a two-stage generalized additive model based on the survey data of fishery resources in August 2022, combined with the data of bottom water temperature, bottom salinity, depth, chlorophyll-a and prey species. The results showed that the average resource density of in summer was 15.03 kg·km, which mainly distributed in the outer sea area of Lusi Fishing Ground and the middle sea area of Haizhou Bay Fishing Ground.

Niche conservatism is essential for predicting the risk of alien species invasions. Currently, the changes of climate niche of during its invasion in China are still not clear. Using principal component analysis, we examined the climate niche shifts of during its invasion and analyzed its potential distribution in China.

As the most effective way to remedy and reconstruct the degraded ecosystems, vegetation restoration could affect soil carbon and nitrogen cycles and water balance. We examined the responses of carbon, nitrogen, and water in 0-200 cm soil layer to vegetation restoration years by analyzing their distribution characteristics across a restoration chronosequence of plantation (5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 years) in alpine sandy region of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. The results showed that the content and storage of soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil total nitrogen (STN) increased significantly, while that of soil inorganic carbon (SIC) decreased significantly with restoration years.

Background: Sleep-wake patterns are important behavioral biomarkers for patients with serious mental illness (SMI), providing insight into their well-being. The gold standard for monitoring sleep is polysomnography (PSG), which requires a sleep lab facility; however, advances in wearable sensor technology allow for real-world sleep-wake monitoring.
Objective: The goal of this study was to develop a PSG-validated sleep algorithm using accelerometer (ACC) and electrocardiogram (ECG) data from a wearable patch to accurately quantify sleep in a real-world setting.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant public health issue affecting many women worldwide. While extensive research exists on IPV during pregnancy and postpartum, there is limited information on IPV against mothers during the critical child-rearing stage, specifically the first three years following childbirth. This study examines the prevalence and patterns of IPV among mothers in China during this stage, identifying associated factors across four family subsystems: individual, husband-and-wife, mother-child, and family context, to guide the development of tailored prevention strategies.
