Unlabelled: Post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 involves several organs, but its basis remains poorly understood. Some infected cells in mice survive the acute infection and persist for extended periods in the respiratory tract but not in other tissues. Here, we describe two experimental models of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection to assess the effect of viral virulence on previously infected cells.

Unlabelled: We previously reported that mutations outside the spike protein play a role in the attenuation of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Omicron BA.1 variant in human ACE2 transgenic mice (K18-hACE2). Here, we assessed the pathogenicity of SARS-CoV-2 (WA1/2020) containing mutations from the Omicron BA.

The environment plays an important role in modulating susceptibility and severity of respiratory tract infections. Influenza is a significant zoonotic disease globally. Hydrogen sulfide (HS), a respiratory tract irritant and toxic gas, is ubiquitous in the environment.

Background: Advances in haemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn have led to numerous treatment options. We report practice variations in the management and outcomes of haemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn in at-risk pregnancies.
Methods: In this international, retrospective, observational cohort study, data from cases with moderate or severe haemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn were retrieved from 31 centres in 22 countries.

Zika virus (ZIKV) is a mostly non-lethal disease in humans transmitted by mosquitoes or humans that can produce severe brain defects such as microcephaly in babies and Guillain-Barré syndrome in elderly adults. The use of optimal control strategies involving information campaigns about insect repellents and condoms alongside an available safe and effective vaccine can prevent the number of infected humans with ZIKV. A system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations is formulated for the transmission dynamics of ZIKV in the presence of three control strategies to evaluate the impact of various scenarios during a ZIKV epidemic.
