Asthma is one of the most common chronic health problems experienced by school-age children. As a result, school professionals need to be well informed about this chronic illness so that they can adequately support the needs of students with asthma. This study examines data collected from a sample of teachers ( = 593) in 2 large southeastern states regarding their familiarity with asthma self-carry and self-administration laws and policies and training received related to general chronic health conditions including asthma. Teachers, on average, reported little training received at either undergraduate or graduate levels. Although teachers noted knowledge about asthma, acquired through in-service training or to a lesser degree formal education, a high percentage of teachers reported receiving no asthma-related training through such approaches. Data in this study are consistent with data collected in a similar study in 2001 suggesting that while asthma prevalence has increased, education about the condition has not. Implications for school teachers, school administrators, school nurses, teacher educators, and asthma education personnel are provided.

Background: House dust mites (HDMs) are the most common cause of atopic sensitivities and allergic diseases worldwide. Therefore, we decided to conduct a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials to evaluate the effect of different methods of HDM avoidance.
Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases were searched to find articles of control-compared randomized clinical trials, which investigated the following analyzed outcomes: total amount of dust (g); Der1 (Der p1 plus Der f1) concentrations (µg/g); Der p1 concentrations (µg/g); Der p2 concentrations (µg/g); Der f1 concentrations (µg/g); measurements of peak expiratory flow (PEF) (L/min); respiratory, pulmonary, or nasal symptoms according to various scales, including visual analog scale; exacerbations; Asthma Control Questionnaire score measurements; and change in quality of life scales (overall change, activity change, symptom change, and emotional function change).

Objective: Dyspnea is commonly experienced in adults who are young and have different health conditions (asthma, obesity, panic disorders) and may impede not only physical exertion but also cognitive function such as visual attention. To test this, visual attention was evaluated using the Multiple Object Tracking Test (MOT) alone and combined with low or moderate inspiratory threshold loading (ITL).
