Morin dye is known as a cheap and readily available selective 'off → on' fluorescent sensitiser when immobilised in a phase transfer membrane for the detection of Al ions. Here, a morin derivative, NaMSA, which readily dissolves in water with good long-term stability is used in conjunction with a fibre optic transducer with lock-in detection to detect Al in drinking water below the potability limit. The combination of a water soluble dye and the fibre optic transducer require neither membrane preparation nor a fluorescence spectrometer yet still display a high figure-of- merit. The known ability to recover morin-based Al cation sensors selectively by exposure to fluoride (F) anions is further developed enabling a complementary sensing of either fluoride anions, or aluminium cations, using the same dye with a sub-micromolar limit-of-detection for both ions. The sensor performance parameters compare favourably to prior reports on both aqueous aluminium and fluoride ion sensing.

Background: Indigenous peoples with substance use disorders (SUD) and intergenerational trauma (IGT) face complex healthcare needs. Therefore understanding Indigenous patient experiences is crucial for enhancing care delivery, fostering engagement, and achieving optimal outcomes, yet few studies explore the motivations for seeking, staying in, and utilizing treatment from an Indigenous perspective. The goal of this study was to understand the patient experience with an abstinence-based treatment model in a residential treatment setting.

A Cultural Evolutionary Model for the Law of Abbreviation.

Efficiency principles are increasingly called upon to study features of human language and communication. Zipf's law of abbreviation is widely seen as a classic instance of a linguistic pattern brought about by language users' search for efficient communication. The "law"-a recurrent correlation between the frequency of words and their brevity-is a near-universal principle of communication, having been found in all of the hundreds of human languages where it has been tested, and a few nonhuman communication systems as well.

Efficient cyclization reactions play a pivotal role in the synthesis of extended polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and graphene nanoribbons. Although efficient reactions have been developed, a simple yet versatile method that is compatible with most functional groups is still lacking. Herein, we report the use of phenylsulfonates as a photolabile group to generate aryl radicals that undergo a radical cyclization reaction to produce triphenylene derivatives.

This study examined the relationships of sociocultural body ideal internalization, difficulties in emotion regulation, and their interaction with body image concerns in a group of 423 Canadian adolescent boys. Participants were 12 to 17 years old and completed multiple self-reported questionnaires. Regression analyses and latent moderation structural equations were performed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the acceptance of osteoporosis medication among postmenopausal women across nine countries, focusing on how various factors like age and fracture history influence this willingness.
  • Findings reveal that 79.2% of participants accepted treatment at fracture probabilities equal to or below the recommended threshold, highlighting a potential gap in fracture risk communication.
  • Higher numeric literacy was linked to a greater willingness to accept treatment compared to those with lower literacy levels, suggesting that improving patient understanding of risk could enhance treatment acceptance.
