Background: Metastasis of oligodendroglioma outside of the central nervous system (CNS) is a very rare event.

Case: We describe in detail the clinical story of a 50-year-old woman diagnosed with profound pancytopenia and signs of extramedullary hematopoiesis caused by diffuse bone marrow replacement by a metastatic oligodendroglioma.

Results: Upon development of pancytopenia, a diagnostic bone marrow examination revealed the presence of metastatic oligodendroglial cells.

Anemia is common with connective tissue disorders, but pancytopenia is rare. We report a 22-year-old female who presented with menorrhagia, seizures, anemia, leukocytosis, thrombocytopenia, pericardial effusion, positive ANA, and evidence of vasculitis on CT head scan and was diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). After 7 months of remission, she was readmitted with menorrhagia and pancytopenia.

A case story is presented, describing a 46 y old man, with a relapsing hairy cell leukaemia. After treatment with monoclonal anti CD-20 antibodies (rituximab) 375mg/week, four times, a complete remission was obtained which has lasted >9 months. The rituximab treatment produced a better remission than earlier treatments with alpha-interferon and chlorodeoxyadenosine.
