Background: The necessity of post procedural prophylactic antibiotics following clean surgeries is controversial. While most evidence suggests that there is no benefit from these additional antibiotics and guidelines do not support their use, there is a paucity of evidence as to how often they are still being used and their impact on infection outcomes. The current study assessed the use of prophylactic antibiotics following cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) implantations in the province of Alberta, and their impact on infection and mortality.

Purpose: Prophylactic antibiotics are used in dental implants to reduce infection risk and implant failure, especially benefiting patients with risk factors. However, evidence suggests that using clindamycin or extending antibiotics postoperatively has an unfavorable risk-benefit ratio.
Methods: This national cross-sectional study analyzed antibiotic prophylaxis during implant insertion across Germany.

Introduction: Dual mobility (DM) total hip replacement (THR) features an acetabular component with an unconstrained tripolar build which ensures a greater range of motion without provoking any dislocation. We report three cases with extremes of surgical misadventure where we carried out a revision arthroplasty with a DM cup. The causes of the failure of the primary arthroplasty were multifactorial, even individually, and ranged from instability due to component malposition, trochanteric fracture, intrapelvic prosthesis protrusion, etc.

Vibrio diabolicus is widely distributed in the marine environment and is an important pathogen of aquatic organisms such as shrimp, fish, and mollusks. The emergence of multi-drug resistance among these bacteria has resulted in a global public health problem, which requires alternative treatment approaches, such as phage therapy. In the present study, we isolated the phage vB_Vc_SrVc2 from the hepatopancreas of white shrimp showing symptoms of acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) and evaluated the efficacy of this phage in preventing the mortality associated with V.

Purpose: Prophylactic insertion of an external ventricular drainage (EVD) prior to the resection of posterior fossa metastases (PFMs) is a common approach to address postoperative transient and permanent hydrocephalus. However, predicting surgery-related hydrocephalus in the preoperative phase continues to be a challenge. This study aims to analyze the incidence, preoperatively collectable risk factors and necessity of perioperative external ventricular drainage placement after posterior fossa metastasis surgery.
