Cardiovascular diseases remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and renal artery stenosis (RAS) standing out as significant contributors to the vascular pathology spectrum. While these conditions have traditionally been approached as distinct entities, emerging evidence suggests a compelling interdependent relationship between AAA and RAS, challenging the conventional siloed understanding. The confluence of AAA and RAS represents a complex interplay within the cardiovascular system, one that is often overlooked in clinical practice and research.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a systemic disease and represents the primary underlying pathology of cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we aim to elucidate the roles of FBJ osteosarcoma oncogene B (FOSB) in AS development. ApoE mice were used and fed a high-fat diet to establish an AS model.

While much about the fundamental mechanisms behind the initiation and progression of Type B aortic dissection (TBAD) is still unknown, predictive models based on patient-specific fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulations can help in risk stratification and optimal clinical decision-making. Aiming at the development of personalized treatment, FSI models can be leveraged to investigate the interplay between complex aortic flow patterns and anatomical features, while considering the deformation of the arterial wall and the dissection flap. In this study, the hemodynamics of false lumen thrombosis, a large fenestration, and the orbital orientation of the false lumen is studied through image-based FSI simulations on three TBAD patient-specific geometries.

In light of the complex origins of ectopic vascular calcification and its significant health implications, this study offers a comprehensive exploration of the molecular dynamics governing vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Focusing on epigenetic modulation, we investigate the transition from a contractile to a calcifying phenotype in VSMCs, with an emphasis on understanding the role of SIRT1. For this purpose, a single batch of human aortic SMCs, used at a specified passage number to maintain consistency, was subjected to calcium and phosphate overload for up to 72 h.
