Objective: To describe a new technique or adjunct-telescoping the dorsal hood-with a view to banking excess skin on the penile shaft in hypospadias surgery. This would help if redo surgery, not a rare occurrence, is required in the future.

Peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is a minimally invasive endoscopic technique for the treatment of achalasia and its use has been widely spread in recent years. The Triangle Tip-Jet (TTJ) (Olympus Triangle TipKnife-J, KD645L) has become very popular in this field and currently one of the most used knives for POEM procedures. It has the capability of knife dissection along with submucosal injection and its triangle tip shape is especially useful for pulling tissue during the myotomy phase.

Splanchnic sympathetic nerve denervation improves bacterial clearance and clinical recovery in established ovine Gram-negative bacteremia.

Intensive Care Med Exp

August 2023

Preclinical Critical Care Unit, Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, University of Melbourne, 30 Royal Parade Parkville, Victoria, 3052, Australia.

Background: The autonomic nervous system can modulate the innate immune responses to bacterial infections via the splanchnic sympathetic nerves. Here, we aimed to determine the effects of bilateral splanchnic sympathetic nerve denervation on blood pressure, plasma cytokines, blood bacterial counts and the clinical state in sheep with established bacteremia.

Methods: Conscious Merino ewes received an intravenous infusion of Escherichia coli for 30 h (1 × 10 colony forming units/mL/h) to induce bacteremia.

Background: Standardized photographic recording and anatomic evaluation are crucial to refined and comprehensive preoperative design and enhanced aesthetic effect of female genital cosmetic surgery.

Objectives: The authors aim to propose a standard photographic scheme and physical examination form for the anatomical assessment of patients undergoing female genital surgery.

Methods: The scheme containing 2 positions (standing and lithotomy positions) and 11 views (1 frontal and 2 oblique views from standing position; 6 frontal views with labia minora open and closed, pulled to the opposite side, clitoral hood pushed up, posterior fourchette stretched; 2 oblique views from lithotomy position) (2P11V) is applied to record pre- and postoperative appearance of the vulva.

Introduction: Airway injuries are the second leading cause of potentially survivable battlefield death and often require airway management strategies. Airway suction, the act of using negative pressure in a patient's upper airway, removes debris that can prevent respiration, decreases possible aspiration risks, and allows clearer viewing of the airway for intubation. The most important characteristics for a portable airway suction device for prehospital combat care are portability, strong suction, and ease of use.
