In this paper, pure silk protein was extracted from Bombyx mori silks and fabricated into a new kind of disordered bio-microfiber structure using electrospinning technology. Coherent random lasing emission with low threshold was achieved in the silk fibroin fibers. The random lasing emission wavelength can be tuned in the range of 33 nm by controlling the pump location with different scattering strengths. Therefore, the bio-microfiber random lasers can be a wide spectral light source when the system is doped with a gain or energy transfer medium with a large fluorescence emission band. Application of the random lasers of the bio-microfibers as a low-coherence light source in speckle-free imaging had also been studied.

Random lasers (RLs) with a simple structure and low-cost properties have been recognized as an ideal analytical platform and are still challenging for liquid detecting, remaining beset for low sensitivity, complicated operation, and large analyte consumption. Here, inspired by a microfluidic sensor, a microtubule structured random laser for multifunctional sensing is demonstrated. The random laser is achieved resorting to a curly PMMA film with gain and scatterers embedded in it.

Further, we demonstrate the general formalism by calculating analytic expressions for the GH and IF shifts of an electromagnetic Gaussian Schell-model (EGSM) beam and show that the GH shifts may exist irrespective of the degree and state of polarization of the beam, while the IF shifts vanish when the beam is either s or p polarized or completely unpolarized. In addition, the spatial coherence width of the EGSM beam is found to influence only the angular GH and IF shifts.

It is primarily used at optical wavelengths, but there is interest in using it for x-ray imaging. However, constraints imposed by x-ray optics have limited the resolution achievable to date.

Previous studies have reported visual motion aftereffects (MAEs) following prolonged exposure to auditory stimuli depicting motion, such as ascending or descending musical scales. The role of attention in modulating these cross-modal MAEs, however, remains unclear. The present study manipulated the level of attention directed to musical scales depicting motion and assessed subsequent changes in MAE strength.
