Published: February 2020

The cyclic oxidation behaviors of the as-cast Ti-1100-xNb (x = 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0) alloys exposed at 650 °C for up to 100 h were systematically investigated. The aim of this work is to explore the in-depth oxidation mechanism by using the oxidation kinetics and the structure of the oxide products. The oxidation kinetics were determined by thermogravimetrically, and the microstructure and composition of the oxidation scale were studied by using XRD and SEM. The results demonstrate that Nb can significantly improve the oxidation resistance. However, the average weight gains of the alloys decrease firstly and then increase with the increase of Nb content. The oxidation kinetics obeys a parabolic model. The Ti-1100-1.0Nb alloy has the lowest k value, which is 5.7 10 gcms. The surface oxidation products are mainly composed of massive or acicular rutile-TiO, TiO (x = 3, 6), NbO and AlO. Besides, Al(MoO) oxide is also presented on the oxidation surface of the Ti-1100-1.5Nb alloys. Ti-1100-1.0Nb alloy shows the best oxidation resistance property revealed by combining weight gains and EDS-SEM element content profiles analysis. The interaction of Nb, O, Ti, and other elements retarded the diffusion of O atoms into the alloys, which improves the oxidation resistance.

Background: Colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4), a calcium-permeable non-selective cation channel, has been implicated in various cancers, including COAD. This study investigates the role of TRPV4 in colon adenocarcinoma and elucidates its potential mechanism via the ferroptosis pathway.

Phenylketonuria is a genetic disorder characterized by high phenylalanine levels, the main toxic metabolite of the disease. Hyperphenylalaninemia can cause neurological impairment. In order to avoid this symptomatology, patients typically follow a phenylalanine-free diet supplemented with a synthetic formula that provides essential amino acids, including L-carnitine.

Background: Infertility is a significant issue in spinal cord injury (SCI) patients. Men with SCI often experience erectile and ejaculatory dysfunctions, and low sperm quality leading to impaired fertility. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of Erythropoietin (EPO)alginate/chitosan (CH-AL) hydrogel on SCI-induced male rat infertility.

Selenium is an essential element with various industrial and medical applications, hence the current considerable attention towards the genesis and utilization of SeNPs. SeNPs and other nanoparticles could be achieved via physical and chemical methods, but these methods would not only require expensive equipment and specific reagents but are also not always environment friendly. Biogenesis of SeNPs could therefore be considered as a less troublesome alternative, which opens an excellent window to the selenium and nanoparticles' world.

Novel Therapies for Right Ventricular Failure.

Curr Cardiol Rep

January 2025

Pediatric Advanced Heart Failure and Heart Transplant Program, University of Mississippi Medical Center, 2500 N State Street, Jackson, MS, USA.

Purpose Of Review: Traditionally viewed as a passive player in circulation, the right ventricle (RV) has become a pivotal force in hemodynamics. RV failure (RVF) is a recognized complication of primary cardiac and pulmonary vascular disorders and is associated with a poor prognosis. Unlike treatments for left ventricular failure (LVF), strategies such as adrenoceptor signaling inhibition and renin-angiotensin system modulation have shown limited success in RVF.
