Cashew gum (CG) shows promise of being useful as an agro-based raw material for the production of eco-friendly and biodegradable polymers. In this work, we modified this water-soluble polymer with alkenyl succinic anhydride in order to attach a hydrophobic group to it. The modification used two reagents: octenyl succinic anhydride and tetrapropenyl succinic anhydride. Reactions were conducted at 120 °C using dimethyl sulfoxide as a solvent, with conversions better than 88%. Samples with degrees of substitution (DS) between 0.02 and 0.20 were made. The resulting polymers were characterized using H NMR, C NMR, FTIR, TGA, and GPC. The addition of the hydrophobe decreased the affinity of cashew gum for water absorption. Hydrophobically modified polysaccharides are often used as polymeric emulsifiers, thickeners, and compatibilizers; we anticipate that these new hydrophobically modified CGs may be used for the same applications.

Background: Pickering emulsions prepared with octenyl succinic anhydride-modified starch (OSAS) show significant promise as replacements for animal fat. However, the underlying mechanism of incorporating an OSAS-based Pickering emulsion into a myofibrillar protein (MP) gel and its impact on the gel properties remain poorly understood. In this study, the effects of OSAS at varying concentrations (0-10.

Phloretin (PHT) is a natural functional compound with antioxidant properties. However, its poor water solubility and high sensitivity to extreme pH environments, oxygen, and high temperatures limit its absorption and stability. Therefore, in this study, amorphous octenyl succinic anhydride starch (AOS) was employed to enhance the stability of PHT-loaded emulsions, and characteristics of these emulsions were evaluated.

Environmental issues arising from the low pesticide utilization rate make the development of environmentally friendly and low-cost pesticide carrier systems an urgent problem to be solved. Pickering emulsion systems have shown broad application prospects in pesticide delivery. In this study, dodecenyl succinic anhydride (DDSA) was used to hydrophobically modify cellulose nanofiber (D-CNF), and biomimetic flower-like zinc oxide (ZnO) particles were prepared by precipitation method at room temperature.

Introduction: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic intestinal disease characterized by spleen-lung qi deficiency and dampness-pathogenic obstruction. Although there are various treatment options available, patients frequently encounter significant drug-related side effects. Previous studies have shown the potential of A (CPA) in treating UC, but their limited bioavailability has restricted their clinical use.

The present study investigates the effect of ultrasonication (US) amplitude (30 %, 50 %, and 70 %, time- 45 min) followed by octenyl succinic anhydride (OSA, 3 %) esterification on morphological, structural, functional, and rheological properties of sorghum starch. The increase in US amplitudes significantly (p < 0.05) increased the degree of substitution (DS) of esterified starch (0.
