The purpose of this study was to further clarify the association of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and vitamin D deficiency, and to seek the connection between them and related influencing factors. Data were obtained from subjects who underwent health examinations from January 2018 to December 2018. The diagnosis of HT was based on: antithyroid peroxidase antibody (TPO-Ab) levels >35 IU/ml and/or antithyroglobulin antibody (Tg-Ab) levels >40 IU/ml. Based on the Endocrine Society guidelines, 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels ≥30.0 ng/ml were classified as a vitamin D sufficiency; those between 20 and 29.9 ng/ml, as an insufficiency; and those <20 ng/ml, as a deficiency. All statistical analysis was performed by software R. Of a total of 75,436 individuals who were physically examined, 5,656 of them had 25(OH)D levels tested at the same time; 5,230 were enrolled. The level of 25(OH)D in the non-HT group was higher than that in the HT group. Multiple regression analysis showed that HT was statistically significantly correlated with being male, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). TSH levels in the insufficiency group and deficiency group were higher than those in the sufficiency group. Free triiodothyronine (FT3) and thyroxine (FT4) levels in the insufficiency group and deficiency group were lower than those in the sufficiency group. 25(OH)D increased by 1 ng/ml at the normal reference level, with an increase of 2.78 ng/dl in FT4 concentration and a decrease of 0.17 mIU/L in TSH. Patients with HT present with a reduced 25(OH)D level, and TSH is an independent risk factor for HT. TSH is negatively correlated with 25(OH)D level. FT3 and FT4 levels were positively correlated with 25(OH)D levels.

The pseudogap phenomena have been a long-standing mystery of the cuprate high-temperature superconductors. The pseudogap in the electron-doped cuprates has been attributed to band folding due to antiferromagnetic (AFM) long-range order or short-range correlation. We performed an angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy study of the electron-doped cuprates PrLaCeCuO showing spin-glass, disordered AFM behaviors, and superconductivity at low temperatures and, by measurements with fine momentum cuts, found that the gap opens on the unfolded Fermi surface rather than the AFM Brillouin zone boundary.

Exposure to environmental noise is an inevitable factor and may pose a risk to health conditions, even potentially affecting the immune system. However, the relationship between noise exposure and autoimmune diseases has not been well explored. This study aimed to investigate whether noise exposure is associated with an increased risk of autoimmune diseases in South Korea.

Purpose: This study systematically evaluated the diagnostic performance of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) quantitative parameters in detecting cervical lymph node metastasis in patients with papillary thyroid cancer (PTC).

Method: We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Wanfang Data databases for relevant original studies from database inception to March 2024. The quality of the included studies was evaluated using the QUADAS-2 tool.

This study investigated the association between green tea or coffee consumption with cerebral white matter lesions and hippocampal and total brain volumes among 8766 community-dwelling participants recruited from the Japan Prospective Studies Collaboration for Aging and Dementia between 2016 and 2018. A Food Frequency Questionnaire was used to assess green tea and coffee consumption, whereas brain magnetic resonance imaging was performed to assess cerebral white matter lesions, hippocampal volume, and total brain volume. Multivariable-adjusted analysis revealed significant correlations between fewer cerebral white matter lesions and higher green tea consumption, whereas no significant differences were found between green tea consumption and hippocampal or total brain volume.

Mutations in leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 ( ) are the most common cause of familial and sporadic Parkinson's disease (PD). While the clinical features of -PD patients resemble those of typical PD, there are significant differences in the pathological findings. The pathological hallmark of definite PD is the presence of α-synuclein (αSYN)-positive Lewy-related pathology; however, approximately half of -PD cases do not have Lewy-related pathology.
