In recent years the emergence of high-performance virtual reality (VR) technology has opened up new possibilities for the examination of context effects in psychological studies. The opportunity to create ecologically valid stimulation in a highly controlled lab environment is especially relevant for studies of psychiatric disorders, where it can be problematic to confront participants with certain stimuli in real life. However, before VR can be confidently applied widely it is important to establish that commonly used behavioral tasks generate reliable data within a VR surrounding.

The development of research, clinical practice and prevention in addiction medicine is, compared to other disciplines, more influenced by socio-political factors. Research on psychedelics has thus long been hampered by prohibitive policy but has recently been revived thanks to the relaxation of these political positions. The extensive prescription of baclofen for alcohol addiction is mainly the consequence of popular support and has so far not been clearly supported by specific research.

Legalized Sports Betting, VLT Gambling, and State Gambling Revenues: Evidence from West Virginia.

A Supreme Court decision legalizing sports betting in the US led states to legalize sports betting in order to generate new tax revenues from wagering on sports events. Most states already permit other forms of gambling and receive tax revenues from these sources. The literature analyzing consumer substitution in gambling spending contains some evidence on the impact of expansions in many types of gambling, but no evidence on the impact of expanded sports betting.
