Background/aim: Understanding prognostic factors of survival are important for treatment personalization in cancer patients. This study aimed to identify such factors for patients irradiated for bone metastases from prostate cancer.

Patients And Methods: Data from 74 patients irradiated between 01/2009 and 04/2019 were retrospectively evaluated. Ten characteristics were investigated for survival.

Results: Median survival in the entire cohort was 12 months. Survival rates at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months were 84%, 73%, 56% and 47%, respectively. On univariate analyses, the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance score of 0-1 was associated with improved survival (p<0.001), absence of visceral metastases (p=0.099) and only one irradiated metastatic site (p=0.099) showed a trend. On Cox regression analysis, only ECOG performance score (risk ratio=3.58, p<0.001) was significant.

Conclusion: ECOG performance score is an independent prognostic factor of survival after irradiation of bone metastases from prostate cancer and may allow better personalization of care.

Association between frailty and specific comorbidities on oncological outcomes in metastatic hormone-sensitive and castration resistant prostate cancer.

Urol Oncol

January 2025

Department of Urology, University Hospital Frankfurt, Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, Frankfurt, Germany; Martini-Klinik Prostate Cancer Center, University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf, Hamburg, Germany.

Objective: Demographic changes will lead to higher proportions of metastatic hormone-sensitive (mHSPC) and castration resistant metastatic prostate cancer (mCRPC) patients with higher frailty index and multiple comorbidities.

Materials And Methods: We relied on an institutional tertiary-care database to explore the effect of frailty (Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group [ECOG]), as well as cardiovascular (CVD) and secondary malignancy (SecCa) comorbidities on overall survival (OS) and time to mCRPC in mHSPC and OS in mCRPC patients with Kaplan-Meyer estimates and Cox regression models.

Results: Of 802 mHSPC patients, 61% were ECOG0 vs.

Background: PD-L1 and VEGF blockade with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab has been shown to improve survival in unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. TIGIT is an immune checkpoint regulator implicated in many cancers, including unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. Here, we evaluate the clinical activity and safety of the addition of tiragolumab, an anti-TIGIT monoclonal antibody, to atezolizumab plus bevacizumab.

Various prognostic scoring systems in myelofibrosis (MF) have been developed to guide clinical decision-making in MF. However, discrepancies between different scoring systems for individual patients remain poorly understood, which can result in conflicting treatment recommendations. Moreover, data regarding there applicability in Asian populations remain scarce.

An Enigmatic Wild Passerine Mortality Event in the Eastern United States.

Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602, USA.

The ability to rapidly respond to wildlife health events is essential. However, such events are often unpredictable, especially with anthropogenic disturbances and climate-related environmental changes driving unforeseen threats. Many events also are short-lived and go undocumented, making it difficult to draw on lessons learned from past investigations.
