Background: Two-dimensional shear-wave elastography (2D-SWE) is an ultrasound-based technique used to stage liver fibrosis by measuring liver stiffness (LS). The diagnostic performance of 2D-SWE for assessing liver fibrosis in patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) has not been reported before.
Aims: To investigate the diagnostic performance of 2D-SWE for staging liver fibrosis in patients with PBC by using histologic analysis as a reference standard.
Methods: Patients with PBC who underwent liver biopsy and 2D-SWE were retrospectively collected. Liver fibrosis was staged according to the Scheuer scoring system. Areas under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) was constructed to assess the accuracy of 2D-SWE and serum fibrosis models for staging liver fibrosis.
Results: The diagnostic performance characteristics were determined for 157 patients with PBC. The AUROCs of LS measured by 2D-SWE for significant fibrosis, severe fibrosis, and cirrhosis were 0.88, 0.97 and 0.99, respectively. The cutoff values of LS measured by 2D-SWE in discriminating significant fibrosis, severe fibrosis, and cirrhosis were 10.7 kPa, 12.2 kPa and 14.1 kPa, respectively. The diagnostic accuracy of 2D-SWE for staging liver fibrosis was 73.9%.
Conclusions: 2D-SWE is an efficient noninvasive method for the assessment of liver fibrosis in patients with PBC.

Background: Liver fibrosis is a complex reparative process in response to chronic liver injuries, with limited effective therapeutic options available in clinical practice. During liver fibrosis, liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) undergo phenotypic changes and also play a role in modulating cellular communications. Si-Wu-Tang (SWT), a traditional Chinese herbal remedy, has been extensively studied for its effectiveness in treating hematological, gynecological and hepatic diseases.

Liver cirrhosis is prognostically associated with poor life expectancy owing to subsequent liver failure. Thus, understanding liver regeneration processes during cirrhotic injury is highly important. This study explored the role of macrophage heterogeneity in liver regeneration following splenectomy.

Background: The efficacy of microwave ablation (MWA) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with decompensated cirrhosis remains unclear.
Methods: A total of 315 patients with decompensated cirrhosis and HCC who underwent MWA or RFA were recruited. Recurrence beyond the Milan criteria (RBM), local tumor progression (LTP), overall survival (OS), and complications were evaluated and compared.

Background/aim: Liver metastasis (LM), pre-dominant in pancreatic cancer, is associated with a dismal 5-year survival rate. Reports on the presence of fatty liver and liver fibrosis in LM are conflicting. Although liver biopsy is the standard diagnostic method for fibrosis, alternative, less invasive scoring models have been explored.

Background: The evolution of NAFLD, MAFLD, and MASLD underscores significant advancements and nomenclatural shifts in the realm of chronic liver disorders. This study primarily aimed to investigate the possible link between serum selenium levels and the occurrence of MASLD.
Methods: Utilizing data from NHANES for the years 2017 through 2020, we performed an in-depth analysis.
