Inorganic lead halide perovskite nanostructures show promise as the active layers in photovoltaics, light emitting diodes, and other optoelectronic devices. They are robust in the presence of oxygen and water, and the electronic structure and dynamics of these nanostructures can be tuned through quantum confinement. Here we create aligned bundles of CsPbBr nanowires with widths resulting in quantum confinement of the electronic wave functions and subject them to ultrafast microscopy. We directly image rapid one-dimensional exciton diffusion along the nanowires, and we measure an exciton trap density of roughly one per nanowire. Using transient absorption microscopy, we observe a polarization-dependent splitting of the band edge exciton line, and from the polarized fluorescence of nanowires in solution, we determine that the exciton transition dipole moments are anisotropic in strength. Our observations are consistent with a model in which splitting is driven by shape anisotropy in conjunction with long-range exchange.
The dynamic behavior of articular cartilage (a soft porous biological tissue) with strain-dependent nonlinear permeability under cyclic compressive loading and magnetic field is investigated computationally. The compressive force is applied on top surface of the cylindrical plug of the tissue by means of a porous filter. The study of mechanical and deformational behavior of soft porous tissues such as articular cartilage under dynamic compressive loading and magnetic field is useful in understanding the underlying mechano-biological process that may lead to the development of a treatment and recovery protocol in a diseased state.
Room-temperature cavity quantum electrodynamics with molecular materials in optical cavities offers exciting prospects for controlling electronic, nuclear and photonic degrees of freedom for applications in physics, chemistry and materials science. However, achieving strong coupling with molecular ensembles typically requires high molecular densities and substantial electromagnetic-field confinement. These conditions usually involve a significant degree of molecular disorder and a highly structured photonic density of states.
Confinement of metal species in porous supports is an effective strategy to optimize hydrogenation performance ascribing to tunable nanopore environments. However, only focusing on the electronic structure modulation for metal species has limited the design of improved catalysts. Herein, spatial confinement strategy is reported for constructing ultrasmall metal clusters in nitro-bonded COF (M@TpPa-NO, M = Pd, Pt, Ru, Rh, Ir).
The limited operational lifetime of quantum-dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) poses a critical obstacle that must be addressed before their practical application. Specifically, cadmium-free InP-based QLEDs, which are environmentally benign, experience significant operational degradation due to challenges in charge-carrier confinement stemming from the composition of InP quantum dots (QDs). This study investigates the operational degradation of InP QLEDs and provides direct evidence of the degradation process.
Purpose: Noradrenergics and antimuscarinics have been proposed as future pharmacotherapy for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). However, the available randomized controlled trials (RCTs) showed heterogeneous results regarding the safety and efficacy of the combined regimen in OSA. Therefore, we performed this meta-analysis from the published RCTs to clarify this conflicting evidence.
