Even though the viscosity is one of the most fundamental properties of liquids, the connection with the atomic structure of the liquid has proven elusive. By combining inelastic neutron scattering with the electrostatic levitation technique, the time-dependent pair-distribution function (i.e., the Van Hove function) has been determined for liquid ZrPt. We show that the decay time of the first peak of the Van Hove function is directly related to the Maxwell relaxation time of the liquid, which is proportional to the shear viscosity. This result demonstrates that the local dynamics for increasing or decreasing the coordination number of local clusters by one determines the viscosity at high temperature, supporting earlier predictions from molecular dynamics simulations.

Group 1 innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) encompass NK cells and ILC1s, which have non-redundant roles in host protection against pathogens and cancer. Despite their circulating nature, NK cells can establish residency in selected tissues during ontogeny, forming a distinct functional subset. The mechanisms that initiate, maintain, and regulate the conversion of NK cells into tissue-resident NK (trNK) cells are currently not well understood.

Clinical recognition of primary mitochondrial disorders (PMD) is difficult due to the clinical and genetic heterogeneity. Whereas lactate has low sensitivity and specificity, in structured clinical studies growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF15) has shown promise with elevations in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)-related PMD, but its specificity has been questioned. In a tertiary care hospital-wide study, medical records were retrospectively reviewed from 418 cases where GDF15 levels were obtained by clinicians.

Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics.
