Purpose: Numerous methods have been developed for blepharoplasty, including carbon dioxide (CO) laser-assisted blepharoplasty. Although the superiority of CO laser compared with the scalpel for blepharoplasty has been proposed, to the best of our knowledge, no study has compared the clinical outcomes of blepharoplasty with the CO laser alone versus the combined use of a scalpel and CO laser.
Patients And Methods: In the present randomized clinical trial, 21 healthy patients underwent bilateral upper eyelid blepharoplasty. For each patient, an initial skin incision was made using the CO laser (setting, continuous emission; ultrapulse mode; 3 W of power) on 1 side and a scalpel on the other side. The remaining blepharoplasty steps were conducted using the CO laser (setting, continuous emission; 9 W of power) in both groups. The patients were evaluated on postoperative days 1, 3, 7, 14, and 30 using the postoperative repair criteria, including edema and ecchymosis. The Manchester scar scale was used to evaluate the results at 60 days after surgery.
Results: Our comparison of the 2 methods showed no significant differences at 1 month after surgery using the evaluation criteria. The scar index was not significantly different after 60 days, despite lower scores in the scalpel group.
Conclusions: In upper eyelid blepharoplasty, making an initial incision with a scalpel, followed by use of a laser provides advantages similar to those found by performing the entire procedure with a CO laser alone.

Introduction: Post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) and dementia affect short- and long-term outcome after stroke and can persist even after recover from a physical handicap. The process underlying PSCI is not yet fully understood. Transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD) is a feasible method to investigate cerebrovascular aging or dementia, through the pulsatility index (PI), the cerebrovascular reactivity (e.

Objective: To review and compare robot-assisted ipsilateral ureteroureterostomy (RALUU) and laparoscopic ipsilateral uretero-ureterostomy (LUU) in terms of efficacy and outcomes.
Methods: Clinical data of 65 children with complete renal ureteral duplication deformity admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2015 to December 2022 were collected. Among these, 42 patients underwent laparoscopic ureteroureterostomy (LUU), designated as the LUU group, while 23 patients received robot-assisted laparoscopic ureteroureterostomy (RALUU), designated as the RALUU group.

In 2017, Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) published a Clinical Practice Guideline Update for the Diagnosis, Evaluation, Prevention, and Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease-Mineral and Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD). Since then, new lines of evidence have been published related to evaluating disordered mineral metabolism and bone quality and turnover, identifying and inhibiting vascular calcification, targeting vitamin D levels, and regulating parathyroid hormone. For an in-depth consideration of the new insights, in October 2023, KDIGO held a Controversies Conference on CKD-MBD: Progress and Knowledge Gaps Toward Personalizing Care.

Purpose: Standard therapy for breast cancer after breast-conserving surgery is radiation therapy (RT) plus hormone therapy (HT). For patients with a low-risk of recurrence, there is an interest in deescalating therapy.
Methods And Materials: A retrospective study was carried out for patients treated at the Swedish Cancer Institute from 2000 to 2015, aged 70 years or older, with pT1N0 or pT1NX estrogen receptor-positive and ERBB2-negative unifocal breast cancer without positive surgical margins, high nuclear grade, or lymphovascular invasion.

Eating disorders are a considerable and prevalent problem among adolescents. Due to their significant adverse health consequences, it is of key importance to examine available treatment options and their effects. Despite the shared criteria for eating disorders in adolescents and adults, the diagnostic and therapeutic processes in the former require distinct specialist interventions, including the entire family environment.
