Our previous study revealed that gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in Earl's muskmelon is more concentrated in the inner than the outer parts of the fruit. Here, the GABA and antioxidant capacity of the placental tissue of muskmelon, which is considered waste, were evaluated for possible use as a source of bioactive compounds. The concentrations of GABA and related substances in the placental tissue were significantly higher than in the fleshed pulp, whereas glutamic acid and sugar levels were significantly lower. The two sites showed no difference in GAD activity. Furthermore, the placental site showed high antioxidant capacities based on 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and oxygen radical absorbance capacity for hydrophilic compounds assays compared with the fleshed pulp, because of the higher levels of total phenolic and L-ascorbic acids. Therefore, the placental tissue of muskmelons may be useful for developing functional foods, which would also reduce the amount of residues during muskmelon processing.

Current fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) studies primarily focus on alcohol's actions on the fetal brain although respiratory infections are a leading cause of morbidity/mortality in newborns. The limited studies examining the pulmonary adaptations in FASD demonstrate decreased surfactant protein A and alveolar macrophage phagocytosis, impaired differentiation, and increased risk of Group B streptococcal pneumonia with no study examining sexual dimorphism in adaptations. We hypothesized that developmental alcohol exposure in pregnancy will lead to sexually dimorphic fetal lung morphological and immune adaptations.

Objective: To explore the clinical significance of trisomy 7 signaled by non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT).
Methods: Pregnant women with high risk for trisomy 7 by NIPT from January 2017 to December 2023 were selected as the study subjects, and the results of prenatal diagnosis and follow-up were analyzed. Literature related to pregnant women with a high risk for trisomy 7 by NIPT from January 2016 to July 2024 was retrieved from China Biomedical Literature Database, Wanfang Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and PubMed database.

In recent years, stem cell therapy has become a pivotal component of regenerative medicine. Stem cells, characterized by their self-renewal capacity and multidirectional differentiation potential, can be isolated from a variety of biological tissues, including adipose tissue, bone marrow, the umbilical cord, and the placenta. The classic applications of stem cells include human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).

Aims: To determine the effectiveness of tranexamic acid (TXA) in reducing vaginal bleeding, extending pregnancy duration, and enhancing perinatal outcomes in pregnant women with placenta previa.
Methods: A multicenter, randomized, double-blind clinical trial was conducted at three maternity teaching hospitals in Iraq's Kurdistan region, Azadi Hospital in the north of Iraq, and Al-Azhar University Hospital in Egypt on 146 women with placenta previa. Participants were randomly assigned to two interventional groups in a 1:1 ratio to receive either TXA or Dextrose 5% water (D5W).

PEG10 is a retroelement-derived Mart-family gene that is necessary for placentation and has been implicated in neurological disease. PEG10 resembles both retrotransposon and retroviral proteins and forms virus-like particles (VLPs) that can be purified using iodixanol ultracentrifugation. It is hypothesized that formation of VLPs is crucial to the biological roles of PEG10 in reproduction and neurological health.
