Efficacy, safety and treatment satisfaction of transition to a regimen of insulin degludec/aspart: A pilot study.

World J Diabetes

January 2025

Department of Endocrinology, Key Laboratory of Endocrinology of National Health Commission, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing 100730, China.

Background: There is a lack of clinical evidence on the efficacy and safety of transitioning from a thrice-daily pre-mixed insulin or basal-prandial regimen to insulin deglu-dec/aspart (IDegAsp) therapy, with insufficient data from the Chinese popu-lation.

Aim: To demonstrate the efficacy, safety, and treatment satisfaction associated with the transition to IDegAsp in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Methods: In this 12-week open-label, non-randomized, single-center, pilot study, patients with T2DM receiving thrice-daily insulin or intensive insulin treatment were transitioned to twice-daily injections of insulin IDegAsp.

The impact of diet-induced maternal obesity on offspring airway hyperresponsiveness was studied in a diversity outbred mouse model that mirrors human genetic diversity. Female mice were started on high-fat or regular diet 8 weeks before breeding and throughout pregnancy and lactation. After weaning, all offspring were fed a regular diet.

Discovery of Glucose Metabolism-Associated Genes in Neuropathic Pain: Insights from Bioinformatics.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2024

Department of Anesthesiology, Laboratory and Clinical Research Institute for Pain, LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, China.

Metabolic dysfunction has been demonstrated to contribute to diabetic pain, pointing towards a potential correlation between glucose metabolism and pain. To investigate the relationship between altered glucose metabolism and neuropathic pain, we compared samples from healthy subjects with those from intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) patients, utilizing data from two public datasets. This led to the identification of 412 differentially expressed genes (DEG), of which 234 were upregulated and 178 were downregulated.

Dysbiosis of the gastrointestinal tract is the most common cause of disease in childhood and adulthood. The formation of the intestinal microbiome begins in utero, and composition modification during life depends mainly on various genetic, nutritional, and environmental factors. The main cause of intestinal dysbiosis is improper nutrition due to a short period of breastfeeding, insufficient intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, and/or consumption of a large amount of processed food.

Article Synopsis
  • The Vitamin D Antenatal Asthma Reduction Trial (VDAART) studied children from 6 months to 8 years and found links between specific gene variants and children's body mass index.
  • These associations also connected microbiome characteristics tied to obesity with important lipids and amino acids.
  • The findings suggest that genetic factors play a role in influencing the microbiome during development and highlight potential biomarkers for childhood obesity and related health issues like insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
