Alzheimer's disease (AD) prevention is a critical challenge for aging societies, necessitating the exploration of food ingredients and whole foods as potential therapeutic agents. This study aimed to identify natural compounds (NCs) with therapeutic potential in AD using an innovative bioinformatics-integrated deep neural analysis approach, combining computational predictions with molecular docking and in vitro experiments for comprehensive evaluation. We employed the bioinformatics-integrated deep neural analysis of NCs for Disease Discovery (BioDeepNat) application in the data collected from chemical databases.

Walnut milk residues (WMR) were investigated for the first time through their phenolic characterization including soluble (free, esterified, and etherified) phenolics and those released from their insoluble-bound form (insoluble-bound phenolic hydrolysates, IBPHs) and their antioxidant properties. Free phenolics were recovered and alkaline or acid hydrolysis were used to recover the remaining phenolic fractions. Total phenolic compounds (TPCs) and their antioxidant activity were analyzed by Folin-Ciocalteu, FRAP, and ORAC methods, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • Balanced mating type polymorphisms provide insight into the evolution of sexual reproduction strategies in plants, particularly within the Juglandaceae family (like walnuts and hickories).
  • Researchers have identified two distinct Mendelian inheritance mechanisms linked to ancient DNA polymorphisms that dictate whether flowers develop male or female first, showing a 1:1 genetic ratio.
  • A dominant haplotype associated with female-first flowering is linked to a gene related to trehalose-6-phosphate metabolism, suggesting complex regulation of gene expression and hints at sex chromosome-like evolution in these plants.

Effects of leaf scorch on photosynthetic characteristics, fruit yield, and quality of walnuts.

Physiol Mol Biol Plants

December 2024

College of Forestry and Landscape Architecture, Xinjiang Agricultural University, Xinjiang, 830052 China.

The consequences of walnut ( L.) leaf scorch (WLS) were studied using the cultivated varieties, Wen185 ( 'Wen 185') and Xinxin2 ( 'Xinxin2') in the Aksu region, Xinjiang, China. Photosynthetic parameters and indoor chemical analysis were used to determine the variations in photosynthetic characteristics, osmotic regulatory substances, antioxidant enzyme activities, and changes in fruit yield and quality between diseased and healthy leaves.
