Blunt abdominal trauma frequently results in visceral injury to either solid or hollow organs; however, injury to the gallbladder is rare. This is most likely due to the anatomical position of the gallbladder, which is well-insulated posterior to the liver and rib cage. Gallbladder injuries can be in the form of avulsion, contusion, or laceration.

A woman in her 40s self-presented to an emergency department in a major trauma centre with severe right-sided abdominal pain, a tender right upper quadrant mass and chest pain. Diagnostic imaging showed a previously undiagnosed diaphragmatic hernia containing strangulated right colon. The patient had been the victim of a high-energy road traffic accident 18 months earlier, but at that time had not presented to hospital or undergone any outpatient investigation.

A young man in his 20s sustained head and body injuries after a fall from a height, 1 year ago for which he received emergency medical and surgical intervention. A month after the trauma, he noticed outward deviation of the right eye intermittently but did not experience diplopia. On examination, he had a bilateral adduction deficit, bilateral abduction nystagmus and a bilateral vertical nystagmus.

Background: Veterinarians' approaches to the management of avian pain have been poorly documented despite the rising number of pet birds seen in clinical settings.
Methods: An online survey was advertised nationwide to recruit Brazilian veterinarians who had treated traumatic and surgical conditions in birds within the previous year. The survey comprised 25 closed or semi-closed questions divided into four sections (demographics, routinely performed medical procedures and pain recognition, drug choices for analgesia and challenges to pain treatment, and attitudes towards pain relief in birds).
