Body language is an important aspect of human communication, which an effective human-robot interaction interface should mimic well. Human beings exchange information and convey their thoughts and feelings through gaze, facial expressions, body language, and tone of voice along with spoken words, and infer 65% of the meaning of the communicated messages from these nonverbal cues. Modern robotic platforms are, however, limited in their ability to automatically generate behaviors that align with their speech. In this article, we develop a neural-network-based system that takes audio from a user as an input and generates upper-body gestures, including head, hand, and torso movements of the user on a humanoid robot, namely, Softbank Robotics' Pepper. Our system was evaluated quantitatively as well as qualitatively using Web surveys when driven by natural speech and synthetic speech. We compare the impact of generic and person-specific neural-network models on the quality of synthesized movements. We further investigate the relationships between quantitative and qualitative evaluations and examine how the speaker's personality traits affect the synthesized movements.

Limitations of this diagnostic approach include dependency on education and language, time-consuming and costly measures, and long-term monitoring. Emerging studies suggest that non-tremor motor dysfunction in dementias is known to be highly associated with AD biomarkers, with signs of cognitive decline visible in gait and hand movement at various stages of the illness.

Background: Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) differ in their cognitive characteristics. Subscales of the Rowland Universal Dementia Assessment Scale (RUDAS) provide an opportunity to test these cognitive domains across the two conditions. Multiple brief cognitive screening tools have been evaluated to differentiate specific types of dementia, but there are no reports regarding RUDAS yet.

We performed a meta-analysis to compare the cognitive performance of mild cognitive impairment with Lewy bodies (MCI-LB) groups to controls, MCI due to Alzheimer's disease (MCI-AD), and DLB.
Method: Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched the literature for 1) English-language studies on MCI-LB; 2) published January 1990-March 2023, 3) with ≥1 standardized cognitive measure; and 4) comparison data from controls, MCI-AD, and/or DLB.
