Free sucrose, lactose, galactose, glucose and fructose were determined in yoghurts, milk and honey using on-line coupling of capillary electrophoresis with microdialysis. The dairy products were diluted 50-fold with 10 mmol/L NaOH and sampled using laboratory-made microdialysis probes. The microdialysate was brought to the entrance of the electrophoretic capillary and the coupling consisted in a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) cross connector working in the flow-gating interface regime. The electrophoretic analysis was performed in 50 mmol/L NaOH (pH 12.6) background electrolyte, where baseline separation of the five saccharides was achieved in 3.5 min. The LOQs varied in the range 2.3-7.3 mg/L, the number of separation plates varied between 176,000 plates/m for glucose to 326,000 plates/m for galactose and the relative standard deviation (RSD) for ten consecutive analyses of fruit yoghurt was 0.2% for the migration time and 4.4-7.6% for the peak area.

Mycotoxins are detectable in 60-80% of food crops, posing significant threats to human health and food security, and causing substantial economic losses. Most mitigation approaches focus on detecting mycotoxins with standard methods based on liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Typical MS methods require extensive sample preparation and clean-up due to the matrix effect, followed by time-consuming LC separation, complicating the analysis process and limiting analytical throughput.

Propofol, a widely used intravenous anesthetic agent, requires accurate monitoring to ensure therapeutic efficacy and prevent oversedation. Recent developments in modern analytical instrumentation have led to significant breakthroughs in on-line analysis of exhaled breath. This review discusses several sophisticated analytical methods that have been explored for noninvasive, real-time monitoring of propofol concentrations, including proton transfer reaction mass spectrometry, selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry, ion mobility spectrometry, and gas chromatography coupled to surface acoustic wave sensors.

In this work, a DNPH doped PDMS based membrane was developed to facilitate carbonyl compound derivatization. This membrane delivers DNPH in presence of carbonyl compounds to form hydrazones. Subsequently, the resulting hydrazones are preconcentrated, separated and detected by in-tube solid phase microextraction (IT-SPME) coupled on-line with capillary liquid chromatography (CapLC) with Uv-Vis diode array detection (DAD).

Mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOH), including saturated (MOSH) and aromatic (MOAH) hydrocarbons, are contaminants of petrogenic origin. On-line high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) - gas chromatography (GC) - flame ionization detector (FID) was used for determining MOH in olive oils (OOs) and olive pomace oils (OPOs) at different stages of the refining process and in samples from the Italian market. Deodorization reduced contamination by about 30 %, resulting in a significant reduction of endogenous n-alkanes generally up to n-C.

The present study explores the capability of asymmetrical flow field-flow fractionation (AF4) coupled online with diode array (DAD), fluorescence detectors (FLD), multi-angle light scattering (MALS) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) to characterize silver nanoparticles (nAg) hetero-aggregates formed with diatoms derived extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). The content of EPS varied from 10.5 to 105 mgC L and nAg were dispersed at 4 mg L in a freshwater medium.
