Heterogeneous catalysts with precise surface and interface structures are of great interest to decipher the structure-property relationships and maintain remarkable stability while achieving high activity. Here, we report the design and fabrication of the new sandwich composites ZIF-8@Au@ZIF-67[tkn] and ZIF-8@Au@ZIF-8[tkn] [tkn = thickness of shell] by coordination-assisted self-assembly with well-defined structures and interfaces. The composites ZIF-8@Au@ZIF-67 efficiently catalyzed both 4-nitrophenol reduction and terminal alkyne carboxylation with CO under ambient conditions with remarkably improved activity and stability, compared to the simple components Au/ZIF-8 and Au@ZIF-8, highlighting the highly useful function of the ultrathin shell. In addition, the performances of these composite sandwich catalysts are conveniently regulated by the shell thickness. This concept and achievements should open a new avenue to the targeted design of well-defined nanocatalysts with enhanced activities and stabilities for challenging reactions.

The heating oil circuit plays an essential role in the heating calendering roller for the lithium battery pole piece. To achieve the optimization of the heating oil circuit, a fluid-thermal-structural coupling method and a multi-objective optimization procedure are proposed to obtain the optimal solution. A fluid-thermal-structural coupling flowchart based on the numerical modeling for the calendering roller temperature distribution is created to automate the analysis processes in the optimization iteration.

Breast cancer is one of the most aggressive types of cancer, and its early diagnosis is crucial for reducing mortality rates and ensuring timely treatment. Computer-aided diagnosis systems provide automated mammography image processing, interpretation, and grading. However, since the currently existing methods suffer from such issues as overfitting, lack of adaptability, and dependence on massive annotated datasets, the present work introduces a hybrid approach to enhance breast cancer classification accuracy.

A pivotal pathway of photodynamic therapy (PDT) is to prompt mitochondrial damage by reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, thus leading to cancer cell apoptosis. However, mitochondrial autophagy is induced during such a PDT process, which is a protective mechanism for cancer cell homeostasis, resulting in undermined therapeutic efficacy. Herein, we report a series of meticulously designed donor (D)-π-acceptor (A) photosensitizers (PSs), characterized by the strategic modulation of thiophene π-bridges, which exhibit unparalleled mitochondrial targeting proficiency.

The considerable abundance and remarkable stability of sEVs provide substantial benefits for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease. Therefore, precise tracking subtypes of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) is crucial for screening novel diagnostic biomarkers and developing therapeutic technologies. We propose a three-target recognition-mediated proximity ligation assay for the precise identification of sEV subtypes utilizing three specifically designed probes: one for the exosomal surface protein CD63 recognition, one for fixing the biolipid layer, and the third for the identification of distinctive protein associated with a specific subtype of sEVs (L1CAM positive sEVs).

Background And Objectives: The paucity of research and policy on the impact of COVID-19 on the experiences of Black older adults in Canada and around the world has intensified the enduring impacts of racism on their health and well-being. To bridge this gap, our study explored the mental health of Black older adults in Montreal during the early period of the pandemic.
Research Design And Methods: Using an Afro-emancipatory mixed-method research design, we collected and analyzed data from three sources: a survey, focus group interview with service providers from Black community organizations, and individual interviews with Black older adults.
