The catalytic C-H silylation of a variety of aromatic heterocycles such as furan, pyrrole and thiophene derivatives with secondary hydrosilanes has been achieved by using an yttrium metallocene complex. This protocol provides an efficient and straightforward way for the synthesis of a series of silylated heteroaromatic compounds containing tertiary silane moieties without the need for an additive or H acceptor.
