Successful transmission of Plasmodium falciparum from one person to another relies on the complete intraerythrocytic development of non-pathogenic sexual gametocytes infectious for anopheline mosquitoes. Understanding the genetic factors that regulate gametocyte development is vital for identifying transmission-blocking targets in the malaria parasite life cycle. Toward this end, we conducted a forward genetic study to characterize the development of gametocytes from sexual commitment to mature stage V.

The occurrence of viral diseases poses a huge threat and impact on human public health safety and the development of the animal and fishery industry. Here, a strain of single-chain antibody fragment, scFv-1, was isolated from the phage antibody display library construct by immunizing New Zealand white rabbits with rhabdovirus. analysis showed that the single-chain antibody could inhibit the infection of the virus in multiple pathways, including adsorption, fusion, and release.

CRISPR/Cas9 has massively accelerated the generation of gene loss-of-function models in zebrafish. However, establishing tissue-specific mutant lines remains a laborious and time-consuming process. Although a few dozen tissue-specific Cas9 zebrafish lines have been developed, the lack of standardization of some key methods, including gRNA delivery, has limited the implementation of these approaches in the zebrafish community.

The genus is a prolific source of specialized metabolites with significant biological activities, including siderophores, antibiotics, and plant hormones. These molecules play pivotal roles in environmental interactions, influencing pathogenicity, inhibiting microorganisms, responding to nutrient limitation and abiotic challenges, and regulating plant growth. These properties mean that pseudomonads are suitable candidates as biological control agents against plant pathogens.

Article Synopsis
  • Antibiotic resistance is a significant issue for treating staphylococcal infections, prompting the need for new strategies to enhance antibiotic effectiveness.
  • The study developed a CRISPR interference library to pinpoint genes influencing antibiotic susceptibility, particularly targeting the antibiotic dalbavancin, and identified both known and previously unrecognized genes involved in antibiotic tolerance.
  • Findings suggest that certain gene knockdowns, like KapB, can specifically increase sensitivity to dalbavancin, offering insights that could lead to novel antimicrobial treatments.
